ALERT VICTIM ASSISTS WITH ARREST OF CARJACKING SUSPECT

On Wednesday May 30, 2007 at about 7:04 AM, Deputies of the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office responded to the 800 block of East Orchard Road to investigate a report of a robbery and carjacking. Upon arrival, Sheriff's Deputies contacted the carjacking victim who advised, while waiting in her vehicle at the stop light at South Clarkson Street and East Orchard Road she was approached by a white male.

The victim rolled down the vehicle window as the male subject asked for directions. The victim told the male subject that she could not help him as she was not familiar with the requested directions. As the victim was rolling up the window, the subject lunged into the car and began hitting the victim in the face. The subject then opened the vehicle door, sat on the victim and continued hitting her in the face. The victim was able to get free and as she was exiting the vehicle, got tangled in the seat belt, causing her to be dragged approximately 10 feet.

The Sheriff's Office established a perimeter in the area and discovered the victim's vehicle abandoned in the 5900 block of South High Street. An extensive search involving multiple law enforcement agencies was conducted but the suspect was not located. During the search, many personal items from the victim's purse were located along the Highline Canal. The victim was taken to an area hospital where she was treated and released.
