Arapahoe County recruiting volunteers for Court Notification Program

Littleton, Colo.--- In an effort to minimize the number of defendants failing to appear in court, the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office has started a Court Date Notification Program and is in need of volunteers to get the program off the ground.

"We've modeled our program after the successful efforts of JeffersonCounty," said CaptainTomBay. "By simply providing a court date reminder call, they've seen an increase in defendant appearances, thereby reducing failure to appear warrants, and ultimately lowering taxpayer expenditures in the criminal justice system."

Volunteers are needed to make personal court date reminder callsto defendants involved intraffic and misdemeanor cases in county court. The County also is seeking bilingual volunteers who can make reminder calls in Spanish.

Volunteers typically provide four hours of services per week and will be working out of the Arapahoe County Courthouse in Aurora.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Court Date Notification Program, call Val Purser at 303-738-7938.
