County's online tax lien sale a success
Contributed by: YourHub.com on 11/28/2007

The Arapahoe County Treasurer's Office generated $5.1 million during its first ever online tax lien sale, which included $246,000 in premiums, or additional revenue for the Arapahoe County general fund.

The online sale succeeded in selling all 2,639 outstanding tax liens for the year and every parcel offered sold at a premium, which is a first for Arapahoe County. Premiums drive up the bidding price, which allows the Treasurer's Office to collect additional revenue for the County.

"I am very pleased with the outcome of the sale," said Treasurer Doug Milliken. "Offering the sale online has been used successfully in other counties and it has proven to be successful for us."

In past tax lien auctions, the Treasurer's Office shut down for the day to conduct the auction at the County Administration Building. This year, the Office stayed open for normal business, minimizing disruption to citizens needing to conduct business with the Treasurer's Office.

"I want to thank my staff for making this transition to a new procedure as painless and productive as possible," said Milliken. "The sale was so successful; we plan to offer it online annually."
