Candidates share platforms in a race for the Mayor of the Arapahoe County Fair.
Red, White and Moo! The Arapahoe County Fair wants you... to cast your vote for Mayor of the 2008 Arapahoe County Fair, July 23 - 27.
Three highly qualified candidates - Connie Cow, Henry Horse and Parker Pig - have announced their candidacy for Mayor of the Arapahoe County Fair. Each agreed to an interview. Don't know who to vote for? Read on to learn about the candidates' platforms. Without further ado, here are your 2008 Fair Mayoral Candidates:
Meet CONNIE COW from Aurora. Her favorite activity at the Fair is the carnival rides.
Most Important Issue: Pay ONE price! No nickel n' diming on my watch. I support the Pay One Price admission, which includes unlimited carnival rides, all concerts, activities and entertainment. This means you don't pay extra to watch the rodeo, mutton bustin', or demolition derby, and you don't fork over any cash for face painting, camel rides or trout fishing. Just pull out your wallet when you're hungry, are tempted to play the midway games or ready to take a souvenir home. Otherwise keep that cash in your wallet and enjoy!
Role Model: I admire Mr. Old MacDonald for his ability to maintain such a successful farm.
Community Involvement: Supporter for Milk Drinkers around the World; Vice President of the Grass Isn't Always Greener Association; Advocate for the use of natural gas.
Meet HENRY HORSE of Byers. His favorite fair activity is the open class competition where anyone can participate in baking, painting, quilting or gardening competitions.
Most Important Issue: The Fair is great fun and it's an incredible learning experience. It's important to educate today's youth about our agricultural history. Through the Fair, youth involved in 4-H get to display their projects and teach other fairgoers what they've learned whether it's how to bake a cake using nutritional values or raising a steer or rabbit. 4-H teaches kids valuable life skills including teamwork, leadership and organizational planning. It is an incredibly valuable segment of the Fair that shouldn't be missed.
Role Model: Take a lesson from Curious George. He's always exploring and learning.
Community Involvement: Secretary of the Cattle Drive Association; Volunteer for the Mounted Police; Advocate for the Five A Day nutritional campaign.
Meet PARKER PIG from Littleton. He squeals with excitement at the thought of seeing this year's rodeo at the fair and eating corn on the cob.
Most Important Issue: The Fair has got to be fun. Once you get through those doors, there's a ton of things to do. Don't miss the fireworks, concerts, the hypnotist who is bound to make you laugh, or my favorite, the rodeo complete with bull riding, barrel racing and calf roping. Thank goodness there's no hog tying. And brand new this year is the demolition derby - nothing like watching cars crash on purpose. It makes me happier than a pig in a blanket!
Role Model: My hero is Babe. He demonstrates that where there's a will, there's a way.
Community Involvement: Treasurer of the Mud Wrestling Association; Member of Wild Hog Bikers; Founder of the Organization Against the Discrimination of Pig Stys.
