Arapahoe County Motor Vehicle customers will now be able to pay for their transactions with a credit/debit card or an electronic check.

"These new options benefit both the customer and the County," said Clerk and Recorder Nancy Doty. "We will be able to expedite our daily transactions, which will make our customers happy and ultimately save Arapahoe County money and time."

Customers can use their MasterCard, Visa or American Express to pay for their transactions. There is a convenience fee of 2.7 percent of the total transaction. If customers opt to pay for their transaction by electronic check, there is a $1 charge. The fees added to each transaction cover the maintenance and support of the software and equipment. Arapahoe County does not retain any portion of the convenience fees.

"So far our customers have been extremely happy with the new options," said Doty. "We are seeing an increase in credit/debit card and e-check use every day and we expect it to keep going up."

Arapahoe County began accepting credit cards on Sept. 2. Prior to that date, customers were only able to pay for transactions by cash or check.
