With the election having passed, there are a handful of new faces that will begin work in Arapahoe County.
Vying for District 2 County Commissioner were
Thomas Donohue
, 59, and
Jim Dyer
, 58. Donohue, who retired from Xcel Energy in February, works as a corrections officer for the Colorado Department of Corrections. Dyer, a former state senator, is a 30-year resident of Arapahoe County.
Dyer comfortably won the race with 56 percent of the votes, to Donohue's 43 percent.
Seeking first terms as county assessor were
Glen Emerson
and
Corbin Sakdol
to replace
Ed Bosier
, who is stepping down this year.
Sakdol has worked in the assessor's office for 16 years as a senior appraiser. That experience appeared to have worked in his advantage as he narrowly defeated Emerson by fewer than 1,000 votes. Sakdol finished with 50.34 percent of the vote to Emerson's 49.66 percent.
In the race for county clerk and recorder, incumbent
Nancy Doty
won reelection over
Kathleen Conway
with 58 percent of the vote. Doty, 61, has served as county clerk for the past 21/2 years. Conway, 54, is a small business owner.
In another tight county race, Democrat
Doug Milliken
edged out
Sue Sandstrom
for the county treasurer post being vacated by
Adrian "Bernie" Ciazza
. Milliken received 70,407 votes to Sandstrom's 68,328, which translates to only a 1.5 percent difference.
In the county coroner race, incumbent Republican
Michael Doberson
, 57, won reelection by than 4.4 percent over
Gregory Kinney
, 41. Doberson, when not handling duties as county coroner, is a physician with specialty in forensic pathology. Kinney is a data manager and statistical analyst for the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center.
In state-related races, incumbent Democrat
Morgan Carroll
was leading Republican
Brian Boney
by 25 percentage points for the Colorado State House of Representatives District 36 seat.
In a close race as of late Tuesday, Democrat
Angela Engel
was trailing Republican
Spencer Swalm
by 1.8 percent for the House of Representatives District 37 seat.
