Student hit by driver in crosswalk on W. Ken Caryl


At 8:55 a.m. on Sept. 4, state troopers responded to a car versus pedestrian
accident at 6509 W. Ken Caryl Avenue in front of Ken Caryl Middle School in
unincorporated Littleton.

A black 1997 Cadillac Catera was eastbound on W. Ken Caryl Avenue near the Ken Caryl Middle School. A female student from the school was crossing W.
Ken Caryl in a designated crosswalk when she was struck by the front of the
Cadillac sustaining serious injuries.

The restrained driver of the Cadillac has been identified as Dustin Wert,
24, of Littleton. The pedestrian has been identified as Danielle K. Barker,
13, of Littleton.

The pedestrian was taken by ambulance to Littleton Hospital, then
transported by helicopter to Children's Hospital. The accident is currently
under investigation and no charges have yet been filed.

Alcohol and drugs are not suspected as contributing factors.
