"What would you think if we moved back to Denver?" We posed the question to our two sons, ages 11 and 13,at the dinner table in our tropical home in San Salvador.
We were living in El Salvador working in the Foreign Service. My husband audited programs under USAID, the government agency that gives out foreign aid worldwide. Our sons were 2 and 3 years old when we left Denver for Washington DC, the Middle East, and now Central America. We returned to the US as often as we could, usually every one to two years. We always made sure to take the boys to a Rockies game. That Rockies Dog, savored over a night game watching the beautiful Colorado sunset, was the highlight of our trip home!
Without hesitation, the boys said, "We want to go to Denver." And now, we are back, living out of our suitcases and sleeping on airmattresses until our belongings arrive.
What a memory it would be for two young adventuresome boys, who uprooted and left theirColorado home, to live in the far realms of the world, study Arabic, Spanish, and attend international schools. What better way tomark their return to the United States.
I would love to take them to a Rockies Suitetocelebrate the game with their Great Aunt Freda, who turns 82 on September 24th.Unfortunately, in our 9 year abscence, she hasbecome more frail and limited in her ability to walk.Aunt Freda still though, follows the Rockies enthusiastically, longing to go to a game but afraid of the challenge of climbing CoorsField. What with the passing of the boysgrandfather while we were away from Denver, Aunt Freda is the boys new grandparent.
Please consider permitting the 11 and 12 year old boys, 82 year old Aunt Freda, and her family to celebrate her birthday and our return to the best place on Earth: Denver, Colorado.
