No, Not Another Birthday Party....
Contributed by: Nan Butler on 9/17/2007

As I woke up on an early September morning I knew that I had to address the issue that I have been avoiding. I believe from the bottom of my heart that its one of every mothers ultimate challenges. The day that will be compared to many other days, and will be viewed and discussed throughout the upcoming year. The list, the cake, the decorations and oh yes, lets not forget the activity that will keep young spark plugs contained and safe for a couple of hours. You guessed it, its the glorious BIRTHDAY PARTY that my soon to turn 8 year old has been dreaming about since last years "dud party". The ideas are just not flowing. No, Not another birthday party I thought. No, I wasn't born creative!! I don't believe this was in any of the child rearing books I have read. I think its self help books that I need now, and not just one. The pressure is mounting as I try to get energized with my third cup of coffee to make a decision. Nothing is catching my fancy as I ponder the many possibilities to make this birthday "priceless". I think of the never ending sleepover, bowling, a day at the park , ugh. I begin to find myself in a funk. How can I get a creative idea that will capture the spirit of my son Tanner and the energy of his friends, while not forcing me to attend a special school to teach mothers the art of party creativity? Suddenly, possibly with the caffiene high I am experiencing I got it, my son loves baseball. I think of his passion and love for the Rockies and wonder about a trip to watch the Colorado Rockies. I quickly check the schedule and to my surprise they ARE playing their last game on my son's birthday, September 30th. That's it. As I temporarily gloat in my rare creativity, I picturethe look on his face as I tell him my idea. Thiscould be the ultimate birthday present for my son. Yes, it all sounds great but how can I afford tickets? That, is when I was quickly brought back to reality.

As I pondered the financial investment and the potential of this idea the next couple of days, I came across YourHub and discovered that this idea could be more than just an idea. It is the ultimate birthday present that my son as well as his temporarily creative mother could unwrap together. It is likely that these young 7-8 year olds would forever remember this day September 30th 2007. No bowling, no decorations, no whiney kids; but, only 9 innings of cheering, laughter, smiles, homeruns, Dinger sightings and rooting for our Colorado Rockies. More than anything, its the MEMORIES with 11 of my best little friends and my son for a day.
