Graduating milestones of a father's life
Contributed by: Alan Berlinberg on 5/6/2008

As a man enters, lives and passes through middle life, a right of passage, reflection, a bucket list so to speak. He wonders what have I not done to this point, what can I do with the remaining time. The past is, raising a family of 4 kids, pressures of job and continuous travel of 15 to 18 days per month away from home. The future is, how do you reconnect with friends, to restart the relationships for the rest of your life.

My kids are now heading out the door to college, and I lament of missed times past from making a career, to missed friendships from the demands of career and life gone by. So in between coaching my college and almost adult kids on life decisions, and leaving town one more time as part of those 15 days or more on the road, maybe now is the time to start the party, for us, myself, my wife, and 10 of our friends, to connect with old friends and start making those new relationships that we will have as our kids leave the nest. What better way to experience that reconnection with friends, enjoying the 2007 National League Champions Colorado Rockies, under a Rocky Mountain sky, from a suite at Coors Field having the adult graduation celebration party, toasting not just our kids success, but also our success in raising our kids past this milestone of life.

This really is a milestone, and instead of taking our kids to the ballgame as we have done in the past, being able to enjoy an adult party, watching the youth of the Rockies, on the field as we reminisce about, school functions, little league baseball, soccer, boy scouts, marching band, and all the volunteer hours of our past, as well as our plans for the future. As our kids graduation party invites come in and the house gets all that much quieter, with their soon-to-be departures for college, all of us adults, graduating parents, together celebrating our graduating kids, celebrating our success to this point and hopeful of the future. Our future, and theirs in the success they have yet to come, and ours, the adults celebrating our sacrifices to this point from Coors Field, and establishing the connections for a dozen futures as we pass through this milestone in our lives, and toast ourselves for a job well done.
