If the long stretch between Easter and Mother's Day this year is creating an ugly void in your social calendar, worry not! Award winning chef Michael Long of Opus in downtown Littleton is whipping up the ultimate five-course chocolate connoisseur's nirvana mid-way between the two. Toss out the M&M's and think WAY outside the chocolate box-like cocoa and orange zest dusted jumbo sea scallops, mole duckling breast over tomatillo sauce, rosemary grilled elk with chocolate enriched cola sauce, petite chocolates & fruit layered with chocolate parfait and super-secret "chocolate air."
It's true-you haven't heard of any of these innovate chocolate inspired delights and Chef Long prefers it that way. Not only have you never experienced chocolate like this before, but he guarantees you never will again. Opus is known for its one-of-a-kind theme dinners, each one building on the popular success of the last. "These unique theme dinners give us a chance to serve artistic and fun dishes that guests are reluctant to try on a standard dinner night out," says Michael, offering up the perfect excuse to try chocolate for every course. Each dish arrives at your table with a custom wine selected by one of Opus' three sommeliers, Michael Moore (no, not the filmmaker).
And happily, this extravagant all-things-chocolate meal is just the beginning. Local author and international speaker Julie Pech will also be in attendance to dish about chocolate, or perhaps more appropriately, to show us how to dish chocolate. Julie's book "The Chocolate Therapist: A User's Guide to the Extraordinary Health Benefits of Chocolate" is working it's way up the popularity charts and need we wonder why? Packed with entertaining and informative statistics about why chocolate is good for the body, mind and soul, "The Chocolate Therapist" typifies another basic life strategy we learned in kindergarten-when in doubt, eat more chocolate. And after reading this book, we can finally do it guilt-free every day.
Get out the Mont Blanc and pen this one in. Monday, April 23, cocktails at 6:30 pm, dinner promptly at 7:00 pm. Cost includes your 5-course culinary chocolate dining experience, a custom paired wines for each course, a personally signed copy of "The Chocolate Therapist" and a take-home goody bag of discriminating chocolates. Reservations required at 303-703-6787.
