25 LPS students earn National Merit Recognition; 4 LPS students named National Hispanic Scholars
Ten students from Littleton Public Schools' three high schools have been named National Merit Semifinalists and an additional 15 were named National Merit Commended Scholars. About 16,000 nationally qualified as National Merit Semifinalists. To be named a Semifinalist, a student must score in the top range of the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test), which is given nationally.
LPS Semifinalists will now compete with other students nationally to become National Merit Finalists and for a share of more than $36 million in scholarship money.
To become a finalist, students must not only have an outstanding academic record, but must be endorsed and recommended by their principal. Candidates submit their SAT scores, a detailed scholarship application including an essay, and submit information about their participation and leadership in school and community activities. Finalists will be announced in April, 2010.
