Dakota Ridge grad leads Howard to softball finals

On May 14, Brianne Gutierrez, a Dakota Ridge High School graduate, led Howard University in Washington, DC to the MEAC Conference championship with three hits, a walk and three RBI's againstNorth Carolina A&T State University in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's softball championship at Randazzo Park. Howard University won 17-0 and earned the Bison their first-ever conference tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Tournament.

Howard University played National Champion Arizona, the number one seed in the NCAA Softball Tournament on May 18.Howard lost to Arizona 9-0.

Gutierrez is the third baseman for the team.

James Gutierrez is Brianne's father and lives in Englewood.
