Snow-packed roads and freezing temperatures couldn't keep the die-hard MMA fans away from
Steve Alley's Kick Down 45 on Saturday night, Dec. 8! Some fought traffic for hours to attend "Season's Beatings II" at Littleton's Fat City. Eleven fights culminated with three MMA title matches including the first Kick Down Women's MMA Title.
Five fights were decided by the judges; all were excellently matched with conditioning and stamina finally tipping the scales in the winners' favor.
The first ever Kick Down Women's MMA Title match was definitely the nail-biter of the night. Both women were hungry for the win, but
Cat Albert took
Louise Johnson down first -- managing a quick side mount before Johnson scrambled out. Albert's fake punches that preceded take-downs worked twice and several fast jabs did some nose damage before Johnson managed a constrictor-like leg triangle choke so tight both her leg and Albert's face changed colors! Albert hung on for what seemed like an eternity before finally passing out 2:24 into the 3 rd round. MUCH respect to Albert and Johnson for a riveting fight!
Kick Down's Light Weight MMA Title went to
Prentice Ingram after three grueling, action-packed rounds. Ingram got the first take down and
Gates answered with a series of attempted arm bars that transformed into a full mount. In Round 2, Ingram landed two solid, back round-house kicks but Gates caught the third! "THUD, THUD, THUD," echoed thru the transformed skate rink as Ingram wailed on Gates' rib cage after escaping a near arm bar. A well-matched full three rounds were scored and the judges unanimously gave the belt to a very gracious and humble Ingram.
The night's Main Event kept the Kick Down Professional Welterweight MMA Title in Bountiful, Utah with the returning champ,
Bryant Craven.
Max Smith had the first take down and fought hard until an arm bar quickly turned into a strong triangle choke forcing him to tap out at 3:27 into the first round.
After my return to observing MMA fighting after years of corporate force-fed monotony, I greatly appreciated the opportunity to return as Guest Writer for
ColoradoFightEvents.com. President,
Dan Magnie was a fantastic host and I was honored to have been introduced to Steve Alley and many of the fighters at the culmination of 6 years of Kick Down events.
