McConnells shine at Grand Prix
Contributed by: Brendan Harrington/YourHub.com on 1/20/2006

During the final round of the Grand Prix horse jumping competition at the 100th annual National Western Stock Show, spectators heard the same few names repeatedly.

One of those names was McConnell. Both Kris and and her daughter Emily McConnell, of Littleton, and Kris' brother in law, John McConnell, of Elizabeth, qualified for the final night's competition Jan. 16 at the Events Center.

While Emily was eliminated after one run, Kris and John went on to the tiebreaking round of six riders. In the end, Kris took third place in the multi-day competition.

The overall winner was Karen Cudmore, of Omaha, Neb., another name repeated through the night. Not only did she place both first and second on different horses, but she has won the last five consecutive Grand Prix events.
