Mile High Rowing Club closed out their fall season red-hot competing in the 18th Annual Wichita Frostbite Regatta held on the Little Arkansas River. Competition was stiff with rowers facing eight other junior teams from Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Colorado, and Oklahoma. Head coach Grace Malacrida was very pleased with her team's results.
Due to NCAA rules, the girl's teams are only allowed to race other junior crews while the boys are permitted to race juniors and college rowers. Although no medals were collected by the men, they were successful in defeating several of the college teams in various events. The junior girl's team came home victorious with bronze, silver, and gold medals in several events.
After taking a week off, the team has started their indoor season at Chaparral High School. The conditioning/training program is almost completely full showing the increasing popularity of rowing in Colorado. Rowers train in hopes of competing in the World Indoor Rowing Championships, CRASH B's in Boston next February.
Rowers will be back on the water in March as soon as water temperatures allow.
No experience necessary, novice rowers welcome!
