The South Jeffco 7th Grade Scorpions team took a cue from the NFL last weekend and went Pink in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the team's game against the Arvada Predators, the Scorpions sported pink trim on their shoes, their uniforms, and their gloves to support breast cancer awareness, much like players across the entire NFL during the month.
The idea was the brainchild of brothers and teammates, Nick and Josh Cohn who presented the idea to the team. "We wanted to help increase awareness of breast cancer and how it is affecting women, " said Josh. Nick Cohn added that the team "really wanted to send a message that we care."
Head Coach Dan Wilson stressed that the boys provided all the planning, leg work and effort into how they wanted to display their support for breast cancer awareness. "I think many of the mom's in attendance at the game, most of who did not know this would be happening, were surprised and also moved by the boys' actions. These players are developing into fine young men," Wilson added.
The Scorpions beat Arvada 24-16 and enter the Jeffco Midget Football Association playoffs sporting a 6-1 record, including six straight wins, and they are undefeated in conference play as playoffs begin.
