You Know You're a Ski Bum If...

    With all the snow falling in the mountains recently, I found myself thinking about skiing a lot. When I say a lot, I mean not just "once-a-day a lot", but more like "once-a-minute a lot". Since I've already confessed my addition - see my previous column on yourhub.com - I figured maybe it would be helpful to compile a list of things that might indicate you're a ski bum too.

    Score yourself one point for each “yes” answer, and see how you stack up against myself and others. And in case you’re wondering, yes, I have done everything listed below myself.  

    Here's the scorecard:  0-4 points = are you even a skier?  5-9 points = keep working on it, you need to be skiing more.  11-16 points = maybe you've done a few crazy things, but not a true ski bum.  17-20 points = you have an addiction, you're a serious ski bum.

    You know you're a ski bum if...

...you've ever built a chair, or other furniture, out of skis or snowboards.
...you keep a logbook with entries for every day you ski, including place, people, conditions, etc.
...you watch more Weather Channel than ESPN
...you own more skis than there are people in your household.  (score one bonus point if you have more than 2 pairs of skis per person)
...you've ever skied on a hill with less than a 400 foot vertical drop
...you've ever hiked for your turns (one bonus point if it was between May and September)
...you've ever found your legs twitching uncontrollably as you try to sleep the night before a huge powder day
...you've skied more than 50 days in one season
...you check the snow report and weather forecast every morning at work or school
...you've ever skied south of the Mason-Dixon line
...you've ever slept on the floor at a friend of a friend's condo so you could have "slopeside" accomodations (bonus if it was a hardwood floor)
...you've ever called in sick to work or school on a powder day
...you ever drove up to the area the night before and camped in your car (bonus if it was below zero)
...you have skied in at least 10 different states
...you own any extreme skiing movies
...you have ever watched the movies Ski Patrol, Hot Dog the Movie, or Aspen Extreme
...you've ever gone on a last minute trip to Alta, Utah because it was dumping like crazy in Little Cottonwood Canyon
...you've skied down from the Colorado School of Mines "M" into Golden
...you know at least 5 secret powder stashes that aren't on any maps
...you can name more World Cup racers than Denver Broncos players.
