The Foothill Flyers Squirt C youth ice hockey team took the state Colorado Amateur Hockey Association Championship Sunday, March 18, 2007, at the Edge Ice Arena in Littleton, Colorado. The final game between Arapahoe and the Foothill Flyers went into overtime as the game was tied at 2-2. The winning score by Daniel Armstrong # 42, was made with 15.4 seconds left in a 10 minute overtime period. The Flyers led with scores by Derek McMonigal #67 and Levi Stafford #27, but Arapahoe kept the game tight, by making 2 goals as well. The Flyers had a keen interest in winning the state championship because they were undefeated in regular season play, but lost a heart breaking game against Arapahoe 1-2, for the Colorado Youth Hockey League (CYHL) Championship in double overtime with 22 seconds left, the weekend before. It was their only loss and they were not going tocome home without a banner this time!

Sweeping three tournaments as well in Aspen, Arvada and in their own arena, the Edge, the team has had a spectacular year. Foothill Flyers won 20 games in regular season, with no losses or ties. With 588 shots on goal, the offense was busy, scoring 156 goals, and had only 10 total goals scored against the team all season. Goalie RJ Poulter #24, with a great defensive line, finished with 11 shut outs. Very impressive statistics for a youth hockey team!

All players on this team contributed to a winning season by playing their positions, passing the puck and playing as a team. The coaches, led by head coach Steve Konsella,were highly motivated and taught the boys not only the fundamentals of the game, but how to have fun while working hard. A great set of parents and grandparents supported the team all season and volunteered in every game.
