Blog Entry 247 of 265 Average Joe. Not.
I was born, therefore I blog. I have a sense of the ridiculous and need an outlet for that. I can be serious too and love to write little stories about little known but important people and events. And I love wildlife and travel and will always try to share those experiences. I make things up (its called fiction) and am amused when readers are duped into believing they are true.

Why did the chicken cross the road?
Contributed by: Joe McDaniel   on 5/19/2008

This profound issue has troubled far greater minds than mine.

I have, however, discovered WHERE they cross the road. This may help mankind finally solve this riddle. After all, how can we find out why they cross the road if we don't know where they are crossing?

During a recent trip to West Tennessee I stumbled across this sign deep in the woods. See photo. Unfortunately I did not have time to wait and observe the crossing, so I can only offer this evidence in hopes that others can use it to advance our knowledge of poultry behaviour.

I belive it was Aristotle who said, "It is the nature of chickens to cross roads."

To throw a bucket of water on the cat; think about and insert your own tasteless joke here.

The chicken crossed the road because he was stuck to the freak who also happened to be crossing the road.

The chicken crossed the road because he was being chased by Colonel Sanders and/or S. Truett Cathy.

The chicken crossed the road because he had always held it in great contempt and resented the road's relentless attempts to control his life. He would no longer be the road's patsy. Oh, no; he would not.

By coincidence, I received just this week an email offering explanations for why the chicken crossed the road. Theories abound. I am not sure we will ever get to the truth. Thanks, Joe, for clearing up at least part of the mystery.

This kind of reminds me of the "official wildlife corridor" in Castle Pines. Now if they would just explain it to the wildlife.....
