ACC offers wide variety of self enrichment courses


Proud to Be the State-Designated Community College for Douglas, Southwest Jefferson and Arapahoe counties.

Arapahoe Community College's Community Education Program will present a wide variety of self enrichment classes to the community in 2007. The following is a list of low cost classes that start in January. Most of these classes can be completed in just a few sessions (e.g., the range of time classes meet for is between 1 and 15 sessions). For information on class location, times and cost call 303.797.5608, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Dance classes include: Beginners Ballroom Variety for Couples; Intermediate Ballroom for Couples; Beginners Country Variety for Couples; Intermediate Country Western for Couples; Adult Ballet; Adult Jazz & Hip Hop; Swing Dance; Ballroom Dance; Latin Dance; Novice Adult Tap; and, Continuing Adult Tap II.

Drawing, Painting and Textile Arts classes include: Drawing; You Can Draw; Jumpstart Your Sketching; Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain; Drawing Still Life and Landscape; Discover the Joy of Painting with Oils; Create a Painting Per Week: Explorations in Acrylics; Exploring Acrylics; Playing with Pastels and Mixed Media; Fleece Blankets; Sewing for Beginners or as a Refresher; Hand Stitching and Alternations; and, Hooked on Crocheting.

Writing classes include: Creative Nonfiction; Poetry; Creative Writing II; Writing for Fun and Profit; and, Freelance Writing Myths and Realities.

Music classes include: ACC Jazz Band; Private Instrument and Voice Lessons; ACC Orchestra; ACC Chorus; Instant Piano for Hopelessly Busy People; Guitar; and, Singing Opera.

Photography classes include: Introduction to Digital Photography; Beginning Color Photography for Digital and SLR Cameras; and, Get Your Photography Published.

Careers classes include: Discovering Passion; Finding a Career that Fits; Field Inspector Basics: An Overview of Opportunities; and, Careers in Insurance Adjusting.

Personal Finance classes: Baby Boomers Challenge-To Retire of Not? 101 Ways to Design the Rest of Your Life; Investment Timing; Home Buying; How to Buy Residential Income Property; Managing Your Rentals: How to Avoid Trouble and Vacancies; Real Estate Investing: The Next Step; and, Buying Land at Tax Sale.

General and Small Business classes include: Public Speaking-How to Speak with Confidence; Is Franchising For You?; How to Make Money on e-Bay; and, Marketing-How to Get More Customers in a Month Than You Now Get All Year; First Step in Starting A Business-Pre-Business Seminar; and, Second Step in Starting a Business-Writing the Business Plan.

GED classes include: English and Social Studies for GED; Mathematics and Science for GED; and, GED Prep Online.

Computer classes include: Computer Basics; Window XP I/II; and, Excel.

Health and Beauty classes include: Body Care-Natural Skin Care and Profoundly Healing Moisturizer; Women's Weight Training Over 40; Stretch and Strengthen; Beginning Tai Chi Standard Yang Style 24 Form; Hairs to You - What's Your Best Hairstyle?; Ultimate Weight Solution Group; Hatha Yoga; Introduction to Pilates; Stop Smoking with Hypnosis; Protect Yourself-Using Self Defense Techniques-A Women's Workshop; and, Eating for the Health of It.

Home and Garden classes include: Green Energy for the Home and Business; Take the Do it Yourself Decorating and Painting Plunge; Beginning Interior Design; Living in Color; Do It With Help Home Landscaping; Beginning and Beyond Woodworking; and, Beginning Wood Carving.

Language and Culture Classes include: Beginning Dutch I; Beginning French I; Beginning Russian I; Intermediate Russian I; Beginning Japanese I; Beginning German I; Beginning Mandarin Chinese I; Beginning Italian I; Beginning Spanish I; Intermediate Spanish I; Spanish for Health Care Providers and Emergency Responders; Spanish for Travelers; Intermediate English as a Second Language; and, Beginning American Sign Language I.

Personal Development classes include: Celtic Traditions and Time; Handwriting and Statement Analysis; and, Spirituality Course in Miracles-Freedom from Fear.

Recreation and Travel classes include: Traveling Solo; A Guide to Meeting Other Singles in the Metro Area; Beginning and Intermediate Swim; Water Aerobics; and, Water Exercise; Genealogy-Finding Your Roots on the Internet; BasicBridge; and, Bridge-Play of the Hand.

Seniors Program classes include (for 55+): Opera: Expanding Your Knowledge; Beginning Spanish I for Seniors; Traveler's French I for Seniors; Senior Water Exercise; and, Senior Water Class: Punch Card.

Youth Program classes include: Improve Your Study Skills; Organizational Skills to Enhance Learning; ACT English Exam-Improve Your Scores; ACT Math Exam-Improve Your Scores; and, Beginning Japanese.

To register for any of these classes go to www.arapahoe.edu, click on "non-credit courses" and print, fill out and fax the registration form to 303-797-2647. To register by phone call 303-797-5608, Monday through Friday; between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.
