A good book satisfies like a hearty meal. So why not combine the two, and without the worry of getting food on the pages?
Brainchild of
Warren Lynge, chairperson of the library committee, three local restaurants are now getting into the act by offering
"A Night Out for the Library." The restaurants have agreed to direct 20% of each party's check to help fund the campaign. Choose
La Dolce Vita on October 14,
Celtic Crossing on October 16, or
Jimmy's Steakhouse on October 23. Simply make a reservation, and you will be making a 20% contribution to the campaign efforts when your bill arrives.
Castle Pines, Parker and Lone Tree are all in dire need of libraries, either upgraded, or a library building that remains in one spot.
(Castle Pines has been served fairly well by the Book Mobile for years, but as an area experiencing rapid growth, both Castle Pines North and The Village are seeking their own neighborhood design library, much like the building in Roxborough.)
The campaign, called "Say YES to Libraries", started in earnest when the vote failed by a mere 210 votes last year. Castle Pines residents were forced to continue trekking to the Lone Tree or Castle Rock libraries when the Book Mobile was not available, which naturally created more strain on those facilities. Should the vote not pass, possible service cutbacks could affect all Douglas County libraries.
The November ballot is where efforts are really going to count. As per the law, the smallest issues are forced to the bottom of the ballot, which concerns library proponents. "I don't want people to get tired and stop looking for Proposition 5A," said Lynge. "They weren't trying to be mean by putting us at the bottom; it's just the law."
Obviously, Castle Pines residents are ready to contribute. Lynge stated an anonymous donor has proposed a challenge to match five other contributors' donations of $1000 for a total of $10,000 for the efforts.
Please contact the restaurants for your desired night to make a difference in keeping libraries going strong.
