An Englewood man was indicted Feb. 5 for allegedly switching price tags on high-end electronics at local stores.
According to a press release sent out from the attorney general's office,
Robert P. Herrle II, 39, allegedly printed UPC bar codes for $165 Bose stereo systems off the Internet and then entered the stores and placed the fraudulent labels over real barcodes for Bose systems costing between $1,350 and $3,000.
Once he purchased the electronics, Herrle allegedly would attempt to sell the pilfered equipment on eBay or Craig's List, the press release stated. In the event a cashier would catch-on, he would feign ignorance and claim he didn't have enough money to pay for the items.
Herrle was indicted by a statewide grand jury for his role in the price-tag swapping scheme, Colorado Attorney General
John W. Suthers announced Feb. 5.
Herrle was indicted on 42 counts, including theft, forgery and computer crimes. The indictment alleges that between May 1, 2006, and April 30, 2007, Herrle defrauded local Sam's Club and Best Buy stores out of more than $15,000 in Bose electronics.
The Special Prosecutions Unit of the Attorney General's Office and the Douglas County District Attorney's Office sought the grand jury indictment against the defendant, Suthers said. The indictment was gained through the work of the Lone Tree Police Department, working in conjunction with other law enforcement offices in Denver, Arapahoe, Adams, Jefferson, El Paso, and Douglas counties.
Herrle is scheduled to appear in Denver District Court at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 29, one day after his 40th birthday.
