LTPD donates tree in memory of firefighter

On Sept. 30, Lone Tree Chief of Police Stephen Hasler presented South Metro Fire Rescue Authority with a tree at Station 34 in memory of Brian Kopp.

Brian was killed in an avalanche last December in Grand County while snowmobiling with friends. Station 34 was Brian's station before his death.

"In the Lone Tree Public Safety community, Brian was part of our family. We wanted to honor his service and heroism with something that will live and grow at his fire station for many, many years," said Lone Tree Chief of Police Stephen Hasler.

Today's Nursery donated the Chanticleer Pear tree planted at the dedication. The Chanticleer Pear tree is a flowering tree that can grow to about 35' and turns a beautiful shade of red in the fall.

"A tree will give us a daily reminder to never forget our fallen brother," said Fire Chief Dan Qualman. "We really appreciate the Lone Tree Police Department for providing this living memorial."

Becky O'Guin is the community relations director for South Metro Fire Rescue Authority.
