Jim Goodnight is a candidate for Lone Tree City Council in District 1, a 4-year term. YourHub.com asked him to respond to a questionnaire about his interests and local issues. Elections are May 6.

Jim Goodnight

Age: 61

My Family: I am married to Belenda for 35 years. I have one daughter, Sherlene.

Education: Graduated from Coaling Junior College - AA Business

What I do: I am retired from Texaco after 34 years service.

My favorite place in the city to hang out: I am not a person who just hangs out. We like eating at the Brewery Bar III.

What I like most about living here: I enjoy the small town atmosphere with the availability to the big city. I like how it is quiet in our neighborhood, and people are friendly.

My interests and hobbies: I am a competitive rifle shooter. Our three man team set 7 National Records last year and I added another 4 individual National Records.

My favorite thing to cook: I like to BBQ Elk and Venison.

People who inspired me (and how): My coaches throughout my life. They taught me how to respect people and play within the rules. They also taught me leadership and self respect.

How have I contributed to the community: I am President of my Home Owners Association and I volunteer with the Lone Tree Police Department. I am in charge of the Neighborhood Watch Program, in the last 2-1/2 years the program has grown to over 1,000 homes participating.

The biggest issues facing Lone Tree now: I believe that growth is the cities biggest issue and that it has to be handled properly.

Why I am running: I feel everyone has the responsibility to do as much as they can for their community. I feel running for City Council is something that I can do to help with keeping our community the great place to live that it is.
