Interchange will provide access to Sky Ridge
Contributed by: Joseph Kirchmer/YourHub.com on 9/20/2007

City and state officials broke ground Sept. 20 on a $20.5 million interchange that should relieve traffic congestion along Lincoln Avenue.

The so-called Interstate 25/RidgeGate interchange will be located approximately one mile south of the I-25/Lincoln interchange and will provide direct access to Sky Ridge Medical Center. Construction is expected to take 18 months.

"After years of working together, we are excited to bring this vision to fruition and to be a part of this significant event for the future of transportation in Lone Tree and Douglas County," stated Jeff Kullman, CDOT Regional Transportation Director.

The new interchange also will provide connections to E-470, Castle Pines Parkway and Parker Road, which should help ease the traffic burden on Lincoln Road. Transportation officials say the frontage road also will connect Lone Tree to Castle Pines via a frontage road that will run along the east side of I-25 from RidgeGate interchange to the Castle Pines Parkway interchange.

The project is being funded through two different sources. The Rampart Range Metropolitan District will contribute $13.5 million toward the interchange and the Colorado Department of Transportation will dedicate $7 million.

The city of Lone Tree will own the interchange and will be responsible for maintenance.

"This interchange project is a model public/private project providing a solution to leverage CDOT's resources to complete an improvement with regional benefit to reduce traffic congestion and provide for regional connections," said Keith Simon, vice president and RidgeGate community development director of the Coventry Development Corporation.

The interchange also will someday be the end of the line station for the southeast corridor light rail line.

"This interchange not only improves access to Sky Ridge Hospital, but is an integral part of RTD's FasTracks plan for the Southeast light rail's end-of-the-line station and parking facility in the future," said Lone Tree Mayor Jack O'Boyle.

Quick Facts

The interchange is expected to reduce traffic congestion, especially along on the I-25/Lincoln interchange: Traffic counts for Lincoln Avenue are:
-- East of I-25, 61,500 vehicles travel each day.
-- West of I-25, 37,500 vehicles travel each day.
