Lone Tree needs more lawyers.
Just two short years ago, Mayor
Jim Gunning (then a Council Member) questioned the
large legal fees paid by the City. At the June 17 meeting, new Counsel was engaged (estimated at $35,000 - $45,000) to navigate the City's cultural and recreation bonds.
Apparently the lower interest public purpose bonds come with complicated regulations only a Bond Counsel can decipher. As far as I could tell, these include limiting commercial funding, use contracts and naming rights (there goes the Coors Cultural Center) as well as spending 85% of the money three years after issuance.
City Manager Jack Hidahl noted the retained attorney already provided services free of charge, including drafting the bond question, which could be considered job security.
However, I'll refrain from lawyer jokes. Lawyers don't think they're funny and nobody else thinks they are jokes.
I had to look up "
charette." We had some at Schweiger Ranch in 2003.
Other Schweiger Ranch historical updates:
--Douglas County Historic Preservation Board granted landmark designation in 2004.
--Master Plan was developed 2005-2006.
--Schweiger Ranch Foundation formed and State Historic Fund $196k grant secured in 2007.
The ranch has been around since 1874, so I guess a few more years won't make much difference.
Lone Tree gives tornado-ravaged Windsor, CO $5000 to plant trees.
The money is left over from the Arbor Day account so it was for trees, anyway.
Former Council Member
Elton Winters finally gets to hear accolades.
Perhaps characteristic of being out of office, he declined giving a speech.
Bond dollars at work and play.
The
Cook Creek Redevelopment Master Plan was approved. The City will own the facility and SSPRD will operate, maintain and program. Construction is scheduled to begin this fall for completion May 2009.

Look for a better coordinated effort telling neighbors what to do.
