DID YOU KNOW those sugarbeets that grow on Highway 66, and all over Weld and Boulder County roads produce the lovely white tasty sugar that you put in your coffee, on your cereal and in your recipes? About one hundred years ago, it was discovered that this region along the Front Range was excellent for sugarbeets. The right mixture of sun, minerals and water produced a sweet crop that yielded 12% or more of sugar in the beet.

To celebrate our sugarbeet farming history, the Rotary Club of Mead is sponsoring the 3rd Annual Mead Sugarbeet Festival on September 27. The festival is located on a field across the road from the place where all the sugarbeets are piled up until they are hauled away. It's history ... right now.

At this family oriented festival you'll find carnival games for children, bake sales, music, antique tractor shows, straw bale throw, skillet toss, and so much more. Remember those great carnivals that you attended when you were young? Yup, that's it. Bring your kids so they can relive your memories. It's affordable, fun and full of history. Did I mention the great food? Come one, Come all!
