Blog Entry 36 of 38 The Economic Illiterate
I hate politics. I didn't use to but somewhere between now and about 12 years ago politics has become a one-way street. It seems that anyone who is into politics knows only their street and it has become frustrating. I believe I can make the better argument (for the conservative side that is) with just the facts nearly every time. When it comes to mainstream discussion, I don't believe I've met my match. And it has gotten me all the way to nowhere and back again. But the free markets are a different story. It is a subject that one can study forever and never truly be an expert. To some degree we're all economically illiterate, some more than others. I would likely write mostly about the economic peril we face in this country. Of course if I see anything ridiculous posted by some leftie, I may find it difficult not to jump in even though I know it won't have any effect whatsoever.

Dear Bing

Hey Bing -

I've been wondering... I read your two "Republican Thugs..." posts and I wonder if everyone is missing your real point. While it sounded like an angry rant with a little "election rub it in" thrown in, I wonder if there is something else going on.

What I'm reading between the lines is "screw this blog." Amidst all your other points, it sounded like, "I'm ought of here and kiss your a-s." I hope I'm wrong but I have a funny feeling I'm not.

I felt it when someone told you something to the effect of, "No one cares what you think." I almost said something but I guess I didn't. Now I'm regretting I didn't and I think that was when you split initially. Well, I care what you think. I care what everyone who is respectful thinks, and you're one of those who are.

What some people can't seem to understand is putting yourself out there only to get beat up takes a little bit out of you each time it happens. And it usually happens by folks who have never posted and do not understand. (That's why I'm trying to goad Kellie into putting her keyboard where her mouth is - if only so she'd see what it's like.) Unfortunately, you got it from someone who ought to know better.

We have a pretty good thing going here in Longmont, I think. We have Richard, Chris, Stephanie and me on the right and you, Doug and Ralph on the left. There are others (Melinda, Kaye among others) too. If you left, I sure I'm not the only one who would miss you.

I hope I'm wrong with what I'm reading "between the lines," Lord knows it wouldn't be the first time. If you want to take a break, that's fine but if I'm right, I hope you don't stay gone for long...

David

I sure blew this one. Usually, I can read people pretty well but this guy seems to have no respect for either himself or others. In fairness to myself, he's kind of hard to read. Caution to those who need to deal with him. For me, I'm completely through with him. This post was a complete mistake because now I understand why he "got it" from another blogger. Also, we don't have a good thing going here. It seemed so but it isn't.

Thanks David for re-instilling my faith in humanity. I get so darned focused on the negative sometimes I throw everyone under the bus and my hands up in the air and try to walk away. I was laid off recently and have been left to my own devices a wee bit too much. Politics has and always will be a love/hate thing for me.

The tone of this message is as good as the reaching out. I'm going to try to keep my tone toned. This is a good example.

PS, 4 stars is my new 5 star. Getz more attention, ya know? lol

Chris, I think what is happening is you all are (d)evolving into this little clique that nobody else really cares about. Politics are all good and all, and I and others have as many opinions as any of you, but the truth is, YOU GUYZ BORE THE HECK OUT OF EVERYONE ELSE!! I'm no expert, and the good lord knows I don't get 600 hits every day (nor do I care all that much). I am in agreement that YourHub has serious issues, but really guyz, you banter back and forth and, well, it's hard to care, that's all. All my love, mc

CR, I'm not sure I agree about traffic to the site - we had one post not too long ago in which the author said we've become something of a tourist destination. Doug, Bing, David and I have all had recent posts with 600 reads or higher, and your own most recent "Presidential Prediction" post took almost 600. Not stellar, but when you consider the size of the community, not terrible. You had an article in the print edition not too many weeks ago. And the fact that we're all here still blogging after the election says something about us, but whether that's positive or not I hesitate to say. :) I'll agree we could use some more voices, though.

Well said, David.

As far as YourHub (or yourhubbers as we were called), I've been told repeatedly by others to ditch it altogether due to how it's evolved (or devolved) in the last year. The last few print editions haven't even had any Longmont contributions, which is about the only point. Bing and I have been on here for a while, and I think we were both hoping more would jump in - but to be honest, I know people who would join in but refuse to after reading what goes on here. TriTown Online was once called the "cesspool", this site is heading that way, sorry to say. And personally, I don't think that's an accident, it's fully intentional. Won't be the first time a site was plowed under to silence what was being said on it. In this case it won't go away, it'll just become worthless to read or post on.

Well, I read that as him telling us all to pi$$ off, not the first time, wont be the last. I'm fairly confident he understands what 'putting yourself out there' means. Everyone's different, and I guess I'll take your word for it about it "taking a little bit out of you" - but that doesn't much apply to me. Call it thick skin, used to it, or what doesn't kill us makes us stronger. I also consider sources, take that however any of you like.
