Blog Entry 1 of 25 Another Home Office Inmate
Just another web consultant whose boss is a complete slave driver. But I take my revenge by reading - a lot - when he's not looking. I believe in the role of government to help improve society, but I'm fully aware of the dangers of entrenched bureacracy and the how money corrupts. I'm not so much a liberal as I am appalled by what passes for modern conservatism. And as the pendulum swings back and the left finds its voice and strength again, I'm ready to damn its excesses. "To you, I'm an atheist. To God, I'm the loyal opposition."

Late Night in the ICU - The Law Is Broken

Yesterday's testimony by James Comey told a bizarre tale - almost impossible to believe. Top White House officials rushing to stricken Attorney General Ashcroft's bedside to strong-arm a signature, and Ashcroft's assistant and the FBI director dispatching their own muscle to stop them. How could this possibly be real? How could this possibly be how our nation's government operates?

But underneath this embarassing scene is something all the more astonishing. The top law enforcement officer in the country - John Ashcroft - refused to sign off that the president's domestic spying program was legal. His people - the justice department's top lawyers - said it was illegal. And knowing that - knowing that spying on US citizens without warrants was criminal - the president ordered it continued.

So: the President of the United States knowingly broke the law, hundreds if not thousands of times, and over several years. He continues to this day.

The big question: why is this man and his gang of criminals and incompetents still running this country? When are the Democrats - the so-called opposition - going to step up and do their jobs?
