The Divine Adoratrice of Amun speaks from Niuserre
Ok, ok - I'm not really at the Solar Temple in Abu Gorab - I'm here in Longmont, Colorado with my man and our geriatric cat in a house that is probably bigger than we need. lol But I do believe I lived there in a past life... as you might imagine, I am a rabid *ahem* I mean avid Egyptologist and it is at the top of my list to visit. As a matter of fact, someday I plan to travel to several places in the Middle East. The truth is I'm really in Egypt mode as I create this blog, which is why it was named thusly. But chances are I will be writing more about life in general as well as sewing, music and, well... writing. I do tend to blog from time to time on myspace and I post all of my artistic endeavors to deviantart, but this yourhub idea of stories and blogging really appeals to me. Additionally, I believe that the universe shows you the way to go if you just pay attention, and when yourhub came up for me several times in as many days I knew it was, for lack of less cheesy terms; a sign. So here I am. As I mentioned, the great loves of my life currently are writing, sewing, and as always, music. I am a writer who has recently been published for the first time and I want more. I also have my own business making bags and purses, as well as curtains and other household items. I went to school for and worked in the music industry (once upon a time) but the glamor faded quickly - still; it didn't dampen my love for music, even if I don't go to as many concerts as I used to.

One of my greatest loves in life is and has always been horror movies. I delight in being scared so badly that I jump and scream or grossed out so much that I have to hide my face. They can be psychological thrillers, cheesy B horror, slasher films, sci-fi, or monster movies - I love all genres of horror. Whether there are chainsaw wielding manics producing buckets of blood and guts or the terror of implication without actually seeing the brutal acts, I am always enthralled with what other people's sick and twisted minds will come up with.
I probably watched far too many horror movies at far too early of an age and; through no fault of my parents, somehow irreversibly linked horror with sex in my mind. And that is most likely the main reason that I write erotic horror today. For me it is exciting to be frightened - going to haunted houses or seeing a particularly gory or terrifying movie always leaves me with a strong feeling of euphoria. And usually a crush on the movie villain.
One of my first horror crushes was Vincent Price. I would fantasize about being tied up and at his mercy; although due to film restrictions of the time not showing anything graphic and my own inexperience, I was really foggy about what happened after he got me under his control. Additionally, from the beginning pretty much ANY vampire movie produced crushes for me, starting with black & white films and the enigmatic Bela Lugosi. His seduction of the women in Dracula always left me breathless and wishing for an eternity with him. The Lost Boys was another big milestone vampire pic for me - fun fact: I can still recite most of that movie by heart to this day . I'm not sure if I should be embarrassed or proud... Either way, that movie was one of the first vampire movies for a new, jaded, 80's kind of generation - no slick foreign strangers with erotic accents but hot young Hollywood actors strutting their stuff in a horror extravaganza. Make fun all you want, but I know that you can recite at least one line from that movie if you're reading this blog. My next huge vampire crush came in the form of Coppola's epic adventure/horror/love story Bram Stoker's Dracula. It came out on a cold and snowy night when I was twenty years old, full of hormones and desperately looking for love - it broke my heart to see the Gary Oldman's death scene and I came out of the theater still sobbing, a black scarf covering my head in mourning. Then I went home and drank myself into oblivion, crying for several more hours over the love I would never find because no one would cross oceans of time to find me. Aahhh, to be young and foolish again.
There were other paragons of horror who initially really frightened me such as Jason, Michael Myers, and Leatherface who became objects of fascination rather than fear upon later inspection of their movies. I was actually crushing rather hard on Michael Myers just last Halloween... but that could have had something to do with the fact that I was working at a haunted house and one of my rather sexy co-workers played the character to a "t" right in front of my greedy little eyes. On the other hand; Freddy Krueger came about when I was too old to really be scared of him, but I could truly appreciate Wes Craven's twisted mind when I watched the girl get dragged across the walls and ceiling, screaming in terror and leaving a trail of blood smeared behind her. But even then I found Robert Englund's sexy voice and defiant stance alluring and had some *ahem* shall we say inappropriate thoughts about the celluloid character. The series of Hellraiser movies also thrilled me more than they scared me - they had all the gore that a girl could hope for, strong sexual undertones, and an elegant, ruthless, intelligent villain in Pinhead. I have to admit right here and now that I have written NC-17 fan fiction about Pinhead... those dark, stoic types always make me want to be naughty.
But the new breed of horror movies where anything goes, where they are pushing getting an R rating - the evolution is even more than I could have hoped for. Quentin Tarantino was one of the directors who opened up the genre with all of his films, even the ones that weren't horror - his gritty realism was right up in your business and there was no way to avoid the discomfort. He paved the way for horror crushes such as Tobin Bell's Jigsaw; who's twisted sense of honor and willingness to let his victims learn their lessons and escape is unique. Rob Zombie (who is DAMN hot, too) created the depraved killer Otis P. Driftwood; a nasty piece of work indeed. He is a rapist and sadist, he sleeps with corpses, and his fearlessness and confidence are utterly sexy. There are also many dynamic young film makers like Eli Roth, who in addition to being charming and very cute, also creates death scenes that are like sex. The scene in Hostel I where Jay Hernandez is tied to a chair and begging in German *sighs dreamily* between the build up and the gore it's a wet dream come true. Then there are directors like Takashi Miike (well... maybe not many like him) who make pieces of artistic horror. The fantastic beauty of the imagery meshed with the sheer heinousness of the acts being depicted makes you have to keep watching, even when it becomes uncomfortable.
You may be thinking that I'm strange, having all this sexual attraction to horror - but I am far from the only one. There are tons of fan fictions and fan videos on the internet dedicated to horror movies and their villains - Google it if you don't believe me. The fans make up a large part of our culture and economy with everything they buy related to their favorite movies, from multiple viewings at the box office to DVDs to other merchandise they buy. And the movie franchises are huge - think Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Aliens, Predators, even the new kids are getting in on the action with stuff likes Saw and Hostel. Additionally, there is an entire branch of music called Horror Punk, but even bands outside of that style share their love of horror through their songs, their dress, and sometimes their tattoos.
As for myself, I will continue to be enticed and inspired by horror films for the rest of my life. I will revel in the rush I get from watching a film for the first time and relishing all it's surprises, then reliving them over and over again each time I watch. And I will probably always be an easy date when taken out to see a horror movie. *evil grin*
Love & bruises & bloody kisses,
~Annie
