News and commentary on educational issues, especially as they pertain to education in the St. Vrain Valley.

Mr. Smith Goes to S. Pratt St.
Contributed by: Brad Jolly   on 11/14/2007

According to the article in today's Times-Call, Robert Smith is almost certain to be appointed to the District C position on the St. Vrain Valley School Board. While Mr. Smith's qualifications appear to be solid, there are those who believe that Smith's position as the owner of a local tutoring franchise might lead to a conflict of interest with his position on the board.

While that is a theoretical possibility, my experience in talking with Mr. Smith many times over the past several months gives me no reason to believe that he would ever behave in an ethically inappropriate manner. Since coming to our community, Mr. Smith's business has sponsored several local events, and the two clients of his business whom I know have told me that they have been very happy customers.

In short, my data about Mr. Smith is limited, but so far, all of it has been pointing in the right direction. The board would be wise to confirm him at the earliest opportunity. Thank you for taking this opportunity to serve the community, Mr. Smith.

If Brad endorses him, he's GOT to be good. Seriously. Nice change of pace, too.
