The Longmont Theater has a wonderful summer program aimed at involving the youth in theater. We feel that people who participate in theater at an early age will develop a life-long love for the stage.
Youth Summer WorkshopLongmont Theater Company has two workshops for young thespians during the summer. One workshop is for younger children, while the second workshop is for older students. Both workshops will culminate in public performances of their shows.
Children who will be entering grades 1-6 are welcome in the morning from 9:00 to 12:00 p.m. weekdays to study acting, stage craft, making costumes, properties, sets, producing, and presenting a play. Students who are entering grades 6 - 12 are welcome from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. for a similar course of study with more technical and advanced components, and the art of directing, lighting and stage managing. These sessions include formal instruction and lots of "learning by doing." (Students in Grade 6 will be placed in the morning or afternoon session by the directors, after the first two days.)
For the summer of 2008, LTC will be doing two shows. The first, for the younger thespians, is "The Big Bad Musical", a musical fairy tale adventure, involving the Big Bad Wolf and other favorite characters. The second show, for the older students, is "Doo-Wop Wed Widing Hood", a 1950's take on Red Riding Hood, but with a mixed-up set of characters.
Performances will be given on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:00 p.m. on July 11, and 12; as well as Sunday, July 13 at 2:00 p.m. for the public.
