The news that the LifeBridge annexation won't be pursued has come as a big shock to a lot of folks. It has caused a lot of anger on both sides of the issue.
LifeBridge Christian Church was looking to annex the land to the city of Longmont sothe organization could build a mixed-use development on the property. They withdrew the proposal yesterday.
The church is located on the north side of Longmont andowns about 360 acres of land to the east of the city, bounded by Weld County Road 26 on the north,Colorado 119 on the south, Weld County Road 5 on the east and Weld County Road 3 on the west.
Case in point --earlier today, I received a phone call from a reader asking me why we chose to print
Kaye Fissinger's letter about the topic. The reader said that she felt the letter was hateful and sarcastic.
I told the reader that we were trying to drum up some community commentary on the topic and that's why we chose to run the letter.
She told me that she thought enough had been said about it already.
I told her that we didn't think so, and that a little public discourse is never a bad thing. In fact, I told her, if she wanted to sound off on the topic, we'd be more than happy to print her letter, too.
She didn't seem too interested in that. which is OK.In this country, people are free to speak their mind if they want to. They are also free to remain silent if they so desire.
Here's the
Denver Post story about the annexation being dropped.
