Blog Entry 42 of 66 Wrongmont
These are the Longmont stories you may have missed in the local paper, if they ran them at all. I will expand on what was either glossed over or totally ignored - but still may be of interest to you. I encourage citizens to be aware of their local, state, and federal government and to speak up and hold their representatives accountable for their actions - good, bad, or otherwise.

Guitars, firefighters and Christmas
Contributed by: Chris Rodriguez   on 12/21/2007

People who read me enough know I'm not the most politically correct guy in the world, and don't much care whose feet I step on. Probably why I'll never run for public office. I also don't like being taken out of context or misquoted, which unfortunately has happened to me, and plenty of others.

I read a story recently that I thought was great - mixing music with Christmas and our local firefighters. A local music store, Guitars Etc., a place we frequent (as always I recommend shopping locally when possible) donated some guitars to some firefighters for their down time entertainment. They weren't Kwanza guitars, or Fall Harvest guitars, they were CHRISTMAS presents. Just want to make sure that's clear.

That last part was left a little fuzzy in the story that ran, but was clearly stated by Guitars Etc owner, Todd Skaw. I've no doubt that was a last minute editorial decision to leave CHRISTMAS out of the story as to not offend the much too easily offended in the city. So let me offend. I'm assuming " live and let live" is dead is this PC environment of ours. If it's not a certain type of people's way, it's not THE way, period. To them I say cram it, sideways, left.

Just because these people have been getting their way with complaining about anything and everything they deem inappropriate, doesn't make them the authority on anything, except complaining. What I find odd and inconsistent and probably hypocritical (they sure don't mind the holiday pay, or the day off, or using it to sell stuff at their own business) is how CHRISTMAS is singled out more than any of the other "holidays" at this time of year. It's obviously a slam on the first syllable, which people are free to express, and others are free to tell them to stuff it.

A friend of mine told me he was "respectfully declining" to celebrate Christmas. What was refreshing was that there was no condescension, no judging, and no preaching on how anyone else should do it. But some others just can't hold back telling you how it should be, can they?

It's one thing in a government institution, another entirely in a private business such as this. " You people" was heard being used towards workers at the store who celebrate CHRISTMAS! These are the same people who claim to be soooo tolerant, but continually expose themselves for the most hateful, intolerant, and often bigoted amongst us.

I want to congratulate and thank Todd and his son for thinking of this and following up on that thought. It's nice to know there are still people out there that put others, especially our great first responders, before themselves. It's a nice change from the others among us who can't think of enough ways to get rid of anything CHRISTMAS related, or the self-centered need to get into everyone else's business uninvited.

Merry Christmas and have a great 2008!

quack, quack quack. I'd mock you some more, but you've pretty much done that on your own.

Now to you normal people: Sorry about the 15 or so comments that have absolutely nothing to do with this topic, and to the good people in the original piece. Since I avoid the sewer that is Bing's blog, he has to bring his swill over to a totally unrelated Christmas story, nevermind this story is wedged between two based on politics. This doesn't matter to people who have to pee in others pools since no one wants to swim in theirs.

You're right, this is fun, fully expecting you to go nuclear on my last comment.

Yet another example of your 'original' thought, getting alot of mileage out of my duck metaphor aren't we? Got anything you thought up yourself? Hey, I can be your new MediaMatters!

Okay then I'll ask you the same thing you asked me before: If you think I'm a fraud, ignorant, abusive, and arrogant - why do you waste your time here with me? I can't impose my reading of things you say if you don't say anything to me, now can I? Notice how I don't even bother commenting in your blogs - unless I'm called in by you or others in one form or another. Just want to make sure you didn't misread me (since you added a "too"), I said I DIDN'T think you were those things. And you're right, I consider the source when it comes to insults, in your case...whatever, shocker.

I never said you took me too literally. Unless I was talking about sarcasm that you took seriously. I do think your a fraud and ignorant and abusive and arrogant too. But I can say that because you swear up and down that you don't care. And yes you have called me stupid, and "jokingly" implied I am using drugs among other things. I'm not imposing anything on anyone. I simply refuse to be misrepresented in an egregious manner. I defend myself, not insist everyone see things my way. If that's how you interpret it that's just par for the course. Like your comment here, "read things into what I say" is not even close to meaning "taking me literally." If you took me literally we wouldn't be having these inane conversations. That's the whole point. I'll fight people like yourself tooth and nail because you are imposing on me things I never said, views I never expressed and opinions I never offered.

Okay, can't have it both ways - on one hand you say I twist what you say to the opposite - and on the other hand you say I take you too literally or read things into what you say. Don't worry, I believe you believe everything you say. Although I think you've called me a fraud or something along those lines - I don't think that of you. I totally disagree with you most of the time, that doesn't mean I think you're stupid (literally), a fraud, fake or whatever. I won't even say 'misguided' as I couldn't care what guides you where, freedom of choice. It's the IMPOSING it on other people many of us will fight tooth and nail.

I'd so love to continue this debate about who is more rude than whom as I have spent several minutes going over our past "conversations." Check out my first blog and how conciliatory I was Chris. You even made the ridiculous statement that the 1st amendment didn't say anything about making no laws respecting an establishment of religion. Oh those were the days. Then there was the time you insisted Valerie Plame migh tnot be covert, sigh. Oh, good times, good times.
