Blog Entry 22 of 24 Another Home Office Inmate
Just another web consultant whose boss is a complete slave driver. But I take my revenge by reading - a lot - when he's not looking. I believe in the role of government to help improve society, but I'm fully aware of the dangers of entrenched bureacracy and the how money corrupts. I'm not so much a liberal as I am appalled by what passes for modern conservatism. And as the pendulum swings back and the left finds its voice and strength again, I'm ready to damn its excesses. "To you, I'm an atheist. To God, I'm the loyal opposition."

Soccer in the trenches II

(Follow up to the post " Soccer In The Trenches")

In case anybody's wondering - I think it went well.

David Brown showed up, and he and I had a couple of pints and got to know each other. No shots were fired, no blows were exchanged. I now know that David's a good guy, very friendly, with a family and an interesting life story. Not a monster at all - you could have knocked me over with a feather!

We talked about blogging, about how it easy it is for discussions to turn into runaway personal fights. It's impossible to try to cram real human communication into 8-bit ASCII, even with bold, italic, underline and smileys. Heck, I lost a girlfriend that way once.

So I've got a new rule: I'm not going to type a reply to anything David has to say without first imagining that I'm saying it to his face. And in general, I'm going to try my darndest not to get personal, not to get carried away, and to give the benefit of a doubt. I think I may have promised myself that in the past, and if so, I failed miserably. Will I succeed this time? We'll see.

But anyway - cheers, David, it was nice to meet you.

Now back to the brawl!

I was hoping to make it, too, Ralph but my granddaughter's wedding made for a hectic week. Not to mention some car trouble thrown in for "good measure."

Dangit! I came in and looked around, but my vision sucks in low light since my cataract operation!! I wish I'd had a cell number or knew which table it was! I need a do-over!
