Blog Entry 162 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

Why I Hate Hillary Clinton.
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 4/20/2008

I don't like to hate. Perhaps I won't one day. I've been a Browns fan for 2 decades and forgave John Elway so I'm sure I can forgive Hillary Clinton eventually. But not until after November. I have a laundry list of complaints about her. I don't like her voting record. Don't like her voice, it's petty I know, but true none the less. Not everything in the laundry list carries the same weight. I don't like the way she's pandered to the far right wing elements that she used to call the "vast right wing conspiracy." I don't like them going to Rush Limbaugh. I don't like her pant suits. But am careful not to make fun. I don't like her campaign tactics either. And recently her desire to cause a possible calamity within the party to try and woo super delegates to supersede the pledged delegates that Obama is leading in has caused me to question her loyalty to the party and country over her own ambitions.

A brief history of me and Hill. I wanted the left-er Jerry Brown to kick Bill Clinton's arse in 92. But that didn't happen and Bill got the nomination. I was disappointed but was more disappointed that Jerry Brown refused to endorse him. You rarely get who you want in these things. But we needed to defeat George HW. Bush. So I began to campaign for Clinton. I didn't like Al too much either. Something I shared with Frank Zappa, a fear of Tipper and the other Congressman's wives who formed a committee that threatened to censor the recording industry, but I digress. I was, in short, settling but enthusiastic. I began to like Bill Clinton, voted for him, supported him, wrote on his behalf in my own little way, defended him around water coolers and campaigned for him again in 96. Repeat until 2000 when I settled again for Al Gore. (Bill Bradley was my guy)

Back in the mid 90s when the Republican congress lead by the reviled Newt Gingrich and his "Contract with America" a little group formed to try and combat the impeachment proceedings called MoveOn. This brings me to why I now hate Hillary Clinton. Stated below shortly after getting her arse handed to her on Super Tuesday, several weeks ago.

"We have been less successful in caucuses because it brings out the activist base of the Democratic Party. MoveOn didn't even want us to go into Afghanistan. I mean, that's what we're dealing with. And you know they turn out in great numbers. And they are very driven by their view of our positions, and It's primarily national security and foreign policy that drives them. I don't agree with them. They know I don't agree with them. So they flood into these caucuses and dominate them and really intimidate people who actually show up to support me."

The activist base of the Democratic Party she says. The activist base that actually works, like me, and as she points out MoveOn.org, to get Democrats elected and to defend them from attacks. (When warranted of course, sometimes they deserve it) She states that MoveOn did not want us to go into Afghanistan after al Qaeda. This is false. It's worse than false. It's the kind of falsehood perpetuated by right wing activists like Karl Rove who said the same thing about them. And she is actually accusing them of orchestrating harassment at caucus places by them. Simply because they disagree with her national and foreign policy apparently.

Since this time frame, when she made these comments, she has made one disparaging remark after another regarding Barack Obama knowing he was very likely to be the Democratic nominee. She went so far as to say that she and John McCain had experience, Obama had a speech. I know politics is dirty. It's a shame but its a fact. However, the comments made by Hillary are demeaning not only to Obama but to our party. There is a split and there will be bitter feelings when, I believe, eventually he is named the nominee. She has trained her flock to strongly dislike Obama. She has belittled his platform as being fantasy and his supporters delusional. I'm often told in the blogosphere that I am mesmerized by a messiah figure named Barack Obama. Like every election before, trust me, I'm settling with him, Edwards was my guy this time around.

This recent revelation takes my goat though. It's a swipe at me personally. I am used to hearing right wingers refer to people like me in this way. I'm certainly not used to hearing it from someone I used to defend until I was blue in the face. I want to pile on a little bit. Some other reasons I hate Hillary before I sign off. I hate the fact that she and her husband have shifted the party's focus towards corporate interests and "free markets." I resent it actually. Her husband signed into law and she lobbied for trade deals that have screwed labor in this country. They sold out the poor and capitulated to the Republicans with their weird version of Welfare reform. The telecommunications act of 1996 that allowed even more deregulation of anti trust laws to allow media mergers and lowered news standards dramatically.

It's time for her to go.

I doubt McCain will make it to the election. Man's lookin mighty pale. Apparently servicing an ex-cheerleader is taking its toll. Between that and the temper tantrums the man's going to blow a pipe soon. Who ever thought American would be saved by Viagra? :-D

I'd hate to see Hillary stick it out all the way to the convention, and (assuming Obama gets hit by a meteor) take the nomination. Having said that, I'd take her on her worst day over McCain on his best.

Well Bing, I'd hate to see you move to Canada. Actually I wouldn't mind it, but what do you have in common with the Mounties?? Just kidding. I watched Bill on the tube the other night and I just couldn't get past his nose. is it getting longer? Fatter? I think so.... Just go away Hillary, please.....I never wanted you for Prez, and I don't want your husband as the first First Man.....

I wonder when Hilary will decide to fight for the good of the party and not for herself?

Thanks Chris. Yeah it's been up to the supers for some time now. But the conventional wisdom, that is everyone but Clinton supporters, believe taking it to the convention would be a disaster. I hope she quits, but I think she's selfish and indignant enough to rip the party apart and hand the White House to McCain in hopes she can win in 2012. If it comes to that, I'm moving to Canada. For real this time.
