Lifted Laptop: No Harm No Foul
that was the headline of my Rocky Mountain News
Anybody else would be in jail. Put yourself in his position. Computers stolen from the workplace. As it turns out, you are caught in possession of a stolen computer. So you explain that you bought the computerfrom some guy in a parking lot. You'd be arrested. I'd be arrested.
This guy was the City Attorney. Crime fighter. Previously a County Judge. Crime fighter. Previously a District Judge. Crime Fighter. For 14 years. Laptops in his office come up stolen. He has possession. Get's caught. And says he 'bought it in a parking lot'. What a load. Imagine, as a judge, whatHIS reaction would be when the average common thief was on trial for stealing, and the thief, caught with stolen items, tells the police, and tells the judge, "I bought this stuff in a parking lot". Liar! That's what the police would say. Liar! That's what the judge would say. Liar! But the charges were dropped. Investigation stopped. "Not enough evidence", they said. REally???? Stolen merchandise. Man caught with stoLen merchandise? One pLus one equals??.....potato?
