Blog Entry 23 of 66 Wrongmont
These are the Longmont stories you may have missed in the local paper, if they ran them at all. I will expand on what was either glossed over or totally ignored - but still may be of interest to you. I encourage citizens to be aware of their local, state, and federal government and to speak up and hold their representatives accountable for their actions - good, bad, or otherwise.

Backstabbing or Bandwagoning, Pt 2
Contributed by: Chris Rodriguez   on 8/17/2007

In Part 1, I mentioned a possible positive Iraq War report and the potential reactions by some different groups.

Then there are the panderers, you know, the one's running for president. Voting for use of force, not just against Iraq, but anyone else who is a threat - wordplay for war approval. Explaining the vote, and bragging about it when Saddam went down. But when it was politically expedient, they apologized for the vote, or said they were duped. Then the one-upsmanship of saying they'll get the troops out on X date, followed by a promise of a few months earlier, then a few months before that, followed by "immediately", then "yesterday". Is this an auction?

But the polls are doing a funny thing. Congress's numbers are down below Bush's, and this spread can't go on forever (zero is as low as you can go). Could be the news on the war is helping Bush, I don't think he really cares about his poll numbers, but I'm pretty sure Congress is concerned with theirs. Comon, who thought last November these numbers would be like this? I sure didn't. If it is proven there is a direct correlation between the war and these numbers, there isn't a bandwagon big enough for all of these people.

The number one job of a member of congress is to get re-elected, or to get elected to a higher office, say President. The handwriting is already on the wall. In a recent New York Times article, a few candidates who couldn't pull the troops out soon enough are basically admitting they (the troops) aren't going anywhere anytime soon. To that I say "duhh". I don't see how anyone who watched "Shock & Awe" and what followed, and the history of this region and warfare in general, could ever think this was going to be anything but a long, long process. This wasn't Grenada, or even Gulf War 1. Whether you were for it or against it, once it started, it was " on", as they say. You can kick and scream all you want, but for better or for worse there was no turning back.

But back to these evolving opinion ideologues (also known as flip-floppers), what will their goal be, mass public amnesia of everything else they've said? That may have worked prior to the "new media" and the internet, but not anymore. It's all on record, including voting records and resolutions. Perhaps the latest "hawkish" comments of militarily invading allies will fog the memory of the public, after the laughter wears off that is.

I think the most telling comments were in the following Washington Post interview of House Majority Whip James Clyburn (Democrat-S.C), further pointing out, to me anyway, that " politics above all else" is the way it is for a large contingent of our (so-called) leaders. He was asked "What do Democrats do if General Petraeus comes in in September, and says, "This is working very, very well at this point. We would be foolish to back away from it"? His answer " Well, that would be a real big problem for us, no question about that." At least he's honest. But what's the problem? That things are "working very well"? I thought we were on the same team.

I guess the joke's on the dolts who voted for some of these people thinking they'd do anything differently. They never were going to deviate from the original strategy, just like they never were going to change the way pork flies out of the Capitol (that would be earmarks, not "flying pigs") and now they've even approved warrantless wiretapping! The words "lies" and "lied" have been used a little too liberally (no pun intended), guess we'll see where the double standard "lies".

Part of the gamble of writing something controversial is also that someone will find it offensive and take it personally. Part of that gamble leaves you and me open for criticism. Even if real names are used. I accurately represented what you already had written and explained that I felt you and your reasoning had questioned my patriotism. You seem to have this standard of having to specifically name me for me to find it personally offensive. I do not share that standard.

Have you guys ever tried Cougar Gold cheese? It's pretty good stuff. I never thought I'd like a cheese made at a creamery in a state university, and my sophomoric humor begs the questions I'm sure you're harboring, but it is world-class stuff. Even the french unwillingly bow down before the mightiness that is delicious aged sharp cheese. That takes something. For the French to surrender, I mean. Don't you think?

Frustrating? Nope. Have to care more about it for that to happen. Using my name and the nonstop insults and namecalling? Yeah, that's not acceptable. THAT'S what got me worked up. You think I'm surprised you don't agree with my opinion? Or that you challenge it? I don't get pissed about that, I fully expect it. Part of the gamble writing something controversial. But you went a little beyond that. If you didn't think my email was civil, what do you call your response? It was pretty clear, so why don't you just follow it and stay in your own little blog/world. Just keep me out of your rants.

One more thing, I enjoy wasting my time on occasion. I never attacked or even addressed your web site. And you typically misquoted me again. For someone who doesn't care what others think about your opinion you get pretty worked up about it being challenged. I was quite clear with what I took issue here with this post. Sorry I didn't address what you wanted. Frustrating isn't it?

blah blah blah. You were hardly civil to me. Some day you may reread your comments and realize what I actually said and how off the mark you were in your responses to me. Then you will know humility. And you're right about one thing most of what you have posted is not good enough for me. I was rude, I meant to be, at least I am honest.

As far as never being wrong: this whole blog was about a prediction. I'm putting it up publicly a prediction that can be looked at later and laughed at as wrong. I put in a lengthy disclaimer saying I might be wrong, and you'd all know it and be able to prove it. So don't tell me about a holier than thou attitude, but I bet you'd be the first in line to point out my mistaken PREDICTION. What I was hoping for was counter predictions, but oh well.

I have plenty of humility, but not with expetives hurled at me from you. So do I have to have a disclaimer that "I may be wrong"? Of course I may be wrong, but it's an opinion, not fact. I don't have to substantiate my opinion to anyone, let alone someone who can't get through a post without namecalling. I tried to be civil offline, and what did I get for my trouble? Huh? You really need to re-read the original blog entries and figure out why YOU feel they were aimed at YOU. I told you they weren't, but I guess that's not good enough.

Keep saying I'm a waste of time and are done with me, and yet...Wrongmont, which is trademarked, actually was a slam on Boulder Co, some people figured it out. But you hit it on the head with "I simply lost my patience with trying to get you to react", see a problem there? Just cuz someone doesn't see a post, or not have time, or thinks you're just not worth responding to, and YOU lose patience? I had a feeling that bugged you, but after you wrote you responded in your own blog, "if I was interested", I stopped checking mine and checked yours, like you asked. But since I didn't respond, you go off.

You're also part of the public in using your Wrongmont web site and open to the criticisms and occasional use of the word you use to poke fun at the town's name. There is great irony there if you could show some humility. But I don't think you have it in you, at least I haven't seen it. Can you admit, even to yourself, that there is a possibility you could be wrong about an issue? Not have all the facts? I have never seen it. I may lose my temper from time to time, but I do keep an open mind and do recognize I could be wrong. But facts are facts, I look them up. I have called you on your opinions that are not rooted in those facts, and you never address that. So sue me, I have lost my patience.

If I had wrote it about you I would have used your name. I wrote it on the side regardless of who called it in. You have made such comments in the past, but not knowing for sure, I asked you here and posted something else without you included. You notice how I attacked the factual merits of the claim and didn't attack anyone's judgment? But Chris you don't read what I write, you read what you think I write and go off. I simply lost my patience with trying to get you to react to what I actually write. I have agreed with you in the past but I don't recall you ever conceding a point to me. Or more importantly even considering, just considering my POV on an issue.
