Blog Entry 41 of 66 Wrongmont
These are the Longmont stories you may have missed in the local paper, if they ran them at all. I will expand on what was either glossed over or totally ignored - but still may be of interest to you. I encourage citizens to be aware of their local, state, and federal government and to speak up and hold their representatives accountable for their actions - good, bad, or otherwise.

Election Autopsy Pt. 2
Contributed by: Chris Rodriguez   on 12/14/2007

This next part about the recent election has to do with who voted, and more importantly, who didn't.

Roughly, half of the residents of Longmont are registered to vote, and roughly half of those actually did vote. About 17,000 people bothered to vote, that's pretty sad. With a turnout that low, no one on either side can claim any mandate, message, or claim "the people spoke". Barely anyone actually won by a majority (50.1% or higher). But, of those that did win in city council, the new majority comprises a different direction.

Which candidates won solely because they were part of a " bloc" of candidates? Or how many got in because of an anti-incumbent or anti-good old boy network attitude with the voters? In other words, who didn't get in based on their own merits? 1? 2? 3? You'll have to decide that for yourself. If you say none, you're fooling yourself.

LIFEBRIDGE ANNEXATION IMPACT
More than likely because of who got elected, and the comments they and their "supporters" are making, Lifebridge Church has decided against trying to annex into Longmont. So the special election in January will not include a question about this item.

Lifebridge says they'll still build at the Union location, and even though Mayor Lange said that the perception that they are not welcome isn't true, you can't blame them for having that concern. This prediction is worthless now, but I believe a majority of the people in Longmont are not against this annexation or the church, but a majority of possible voters in a special election might have been. Again, you have to look at who voted and how they voted in November. Odds are only the truly committed (and many need to be) would have come out for a special election on this, and a lower number than the half that voted before.

So for now this issue isn't one. Or is it? My claim all along is that these anti-annexation people weren't just against this, and I'm either going to be proven right or wrong in the not too distant future. Based on some of their comments, many of them are outright anti-religion, anti-churches, anti-Lifebridge, you name it. They're anti-a lot and not pro-much, except hearing themselves rant. Their next move: stop the entire project, period.

The way I see it for Lifebridge, this isn't such a bad thing. Pull up stakes in Longmont, go to friendlier environs in Weld County, build as you like (probably cheaper with less regulations) and watch Longmont come begging in a few years for you to annex. Cooler heads usually prevail, and when these flat-earth no-growthers are through scorching Longmont with their great ideas, they'll be replaced or be forced to adapt. Question is, when will their moonbat supporters turn on them - these types always do. Even when they win, they get angrier and start eating their own. It's entertaining to watch actually.

JANUARY SPECIAL ELECTION
Well, now that the main event is off, there is an empty city council seat to be decided. You have a choice between Gabe Santos and Richard Juday. Mr. Santos lost the at-large seat in November, but pulled in 6,000 votes, no small amount. Mr. Juday didn't run in '07 but did in '05 where he got about 900 votes. Does that point to a lopsided victory? Afraid not. Mr. Juday was part of the anti-annexation drive and helped get in this "bloc" of candidates.

You've seen my comments about the supporters of this, if you were against the annexation and liked that "bloc", than Mr. Juday is your candidate. If on the other hand you were one of the many who slept through the last election only to cringe at what we ended up with, or if you are unhappy with the treatment Lifebridge has received - and now is about to leave Longmont for good - than Mr. Juday is definitely NOT your candidate. Mr. Santos was previously endorsed by the previous Mayor ( Pirnack) and the Times-Call, you have to decide if that sways you one way or the other.

Just make the effort to actually vote, it's the only way to get a proper reading on what the citizenry is really thinking, not just some of them.

It took two weeks for that? The quotes above and the ones I sent you speak for themselves, unless of course you're okay with a 'little racism'. You've officially crossed over into TROLL-ville. Not enough people paying attention to you over in your blogs? Gonna copy that now too? More than likely.

Your quotes that you sent me didn't verify your statement, as I said then. Reading is fundamental. Keep on quacking, it makes as much sense as it did before. None.

Juday has an edge but for a reason Longmont should be very embarrassed over. Unfortunately in this town it is nearly impossible to get elected if you have a Hispanic sur name. As much as we would like to think otherwise about our town, that is a big factor. And being a republican will cost him organized Hispanic support and many votes from that segment of the population. Juday will in all likelihood gather the police/fire union support which came out against Santos last time, and was a big factor in the last election for several candidates. Combine that with Santos’ past work for Tom Delay during his criminal indictment and leading up to it (guilt by association), his association with the other "gang of 4", and what will be a very low turnout, and that makes Juday a probable winner. All those factors spell victory for Juday.

Well Lifebridge went the way it should have. Enough said with another election to go. Juday wins and for the first time in many years the Citizens of Longmont have a representative voice on council.

Well, I dont lie either, but you basically called me one with those quotes I posted in the other blog (which I emailed with times/dates - not fake). I dont care about the last word, usually I let you have it in your own blog or email when you tell me where to go - and I go away. I don't know a single person who hasnt experienced humility, including myself, so whatever on that. I'm glad you try hard not to hate, but it just doesnt come across that way. I have a hard time hating someone I've never met or don't know, be it a blogger, pundit, or politician. Anyway, I'm sure we'll do this all over again in a few months, always do. Until then...OOOUUUUUUUT

I am an honest person. None of your petty accusations can change that. I don't lie. And I try hard not to hate. Even you. What I have disdain for doesn't fall under convenient labels that are broad brushes. I disdain ignorance and arrogance, closed minds and petty insults. People who needlessly change the subject when presented with valid points. You're no expert on me or my writing, so I'll take your criticism with a grain of salt, just like I take most of your other opinions. I'm through with you. Go ahead and have the last word. Talking to you is just a waste of time. I'd rather play with my dogs or tip a few beers back, maybe write a posting about national politics or maybe read up on American history. More power to you Chris, I don't wish you any ill will. In fact my hope is one day you'll experience some humility, it would do you a world of good.

Were you talking about me, or you there? Guess it takes a jerk to know one. Main difference is I try to stay on local issues that don't get a ton of local ink, and no national - your rants on God, Conservatives, Republicans I can see any time from all sorts of sources on the net. "Hey another guy who hates 'Cons', woohoo", so original. Speaking of which, how many of the above do you not have disdain for? I'd say "honestly" but wouldnt expect it, based on your rants dripping with hate for those people. You done yet? I can do this all day.

Not so much the moonbat comment but most of the juvenile us against them garbage and the condesending tone. Believe me you don;t come off smarter but that comment alone is another reason to dislike this posting. I have general disdain for people like you, not because I disagree with you. Quite simply, I think you're a bit of a jerk who thinks he knows more then he really does. That's just my opinion.

Glad you're amused, that's part of the mission. Was it the 'moonbat' thing that bugged ya? So what of the above blog entry is ridiculous, too general, not specific enough, or me coming off smarter? Or are you talking about other things in the past or just your general disdain for people you don't agree with?
