Blog Entry 50 of 66 Wrongmont
These are the Longmont stories you may have missed in the local paper, if they ran them at all. I will expand on what was either glossed over or totally ignored - but still may be of interest to you. I encourage citizens to be aware of their local, state, and federal government and to speak up and hold their representatives accountable for their actions - good, bad, or otherwise.

Lazy Voters
Contributed by: Chris Rodriguez   on 1/18/2008

Lazy voters. I probably don't mean what you think when I use that term. I'm not talking about people who aren't registered, or are and don't bother to vote, or have no idea when there's even an election. There's probably a better term, and I'm not pointing towards the apathetic here either.

One type of person I'm talking about is the kind who waits by their mailbox for brochures telling them how they should vote. The other ones are the kind that read others opinions and based on them figure they should vote totally opposite to it. Intellectually lazy and taking the easy way out.

An example was a letter sent in to the Times-Call not too long ago. Only credit I'll give this guy (can't remember the name, wouldn't repeat it if I did) is he was " smart" enough to give his name. In reality, he made himself look like a dunce. He was fairly insulting as he sarcastically thanked a somewhat regular writer, Percy Conarroe, for stating his position so now this guy could know how NOT to vote.

It's one thing to think like that or to actually vote like that, but to make assumptions on Mr. Conarroe's knowledge and experience, as if it's inferior to this writer's, is just that, an assumption. And a risky one at that, as it leaves this brain surgeon hanging out in the wind, unless of course he's right. He's more than likely not (even if he is a brain surgeon).

I'd never met or had any contact with Mr. Conarroe, but was now curious about him after this slime job. Since then I've had the pleasure of having a conversation with him. Not only was he very personable, he's also a former editor and publisher for a couple of major newspapers. For someone of that caliber to go out of their way to compliment me was truly and honor and showed what class he has, unlike the detractor above.

I asked him about this letter, he said it was nothing new and was used to it, along with far worse things including death threats back in the day. I could imagine so, once learning what he used to do. So this conversation verified what I figured; that Mr. Conarroe was not deserving of the insults, and this detractor showed himself as an uninformed buffoon. I guess we just have to say we're supporting who we're really NOT supporting and he'll be totally confused. Too late.

Okay, guess I have to educate this moron again: you know what an ORD-IN-ANCE is? I'm sure specifics in law, especially local stuff, may be a tad bit technical for a national-level scale generalizer like yourself, but there is an ORD-IN-ANCE about SIGNS, all kinds of signs, including ELECTION SIGNS. There are penalties for violating that ordinance, WHO DO YOU THINK THEY PENALIZE! You've never seen warnings against candidates after elections that THEY must remove them ALL? All of this is available online if you'd bother to check - or do you need some website's opinion of it to figure out where you stand?

I'm a partisan hack! Oh that's funny Chris. That's funny. We're the clowns alright. Keep telling yourself that. The candidate is responsible for all of their signs? Sto! Stop! I'm laughing so hard it hurts. You are delusional.

Hmmm, distance himself, implying he was 'close' to this mailer or had some involvement, is that it? And if he did say he had nothing to do with it or even condemned it - wouldnt make a lick of difference to partisan hacks like you guys anyway. Too busy yelling "DeLay", yeah, you clowns can be reasoned with. And the candidate is responsible for who gets his signs and where they're placed. Just like they'll be responsible to remove them after the election, or is that the general public or the police's job? Jeez.

Much ado about nothing Chris. It's amazing how blindly you can nit pick someone you disagree with but ignore the obvious flaws in your own arguments and the tactics the Republicans use. Blame the candidate because someone placed signs illegally, give me a break. Has Santos come out and distanced himself from the recent fear mailer about Boulder annexing Longmont? Surely a much larger transgression than placing a sign somewhere it shouldn't be.

It's ILLEGAL placement of signs, an actual quote that's not FICTITIOUS, and disclosures showing those donations he said he wouldnt take, and stuff left out that probably shouldnt be. If a candidate plays honest and fair, no problemo, and I'd have big problems with people taking down PROPERLY placed signs, whoever they are for or against.

I see your point but I can also sympathize with the person who now knows how not to vote based on Percy's letter. Because of the posts here on yourhub, I've learned that opponents of Juday don't like placement of signs, a fictitious pledge of taking no donations, financial disclosures that show nothing more than small donations mostly by individuals, and his alleged war on business. Which frankly, I don't see. So in effect I have been pushed towards Juday because the criticism of him seems weak. That doesn't mean I base my vote solely on that however.

Excellent point! I've always believed that people who don't take the time to educate themselves on the issues/candidates have a civic duty not to vote.

After 20 years of military, and first hand witness of mainstream media not getting the story anywhere near accurate, and the obvious propaganda feeding bias, I make it a point to know as much range and depth of a topic as I can. I now make it my own crusade to expose those that spin, and do so placing agenda over truth. I won't miss an opportunity to vote ever, and enjoy sorting out facts for folks. Nothing is more powerful than forcing someone to see their true self in the mirror. Voting is good, but we have a responsibility to vote based on ALL facts, perspective, and truth!

Thanks. I confess that I've been one of those voters, but have learned to do some research. People need to hear you. Too many rely on FOX or CNN or their freinds and family, and don't go to the candidate's web sites or look up their voting records. etc.
