Blog Entry 165 of 178 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

Longmont Report is a joke
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 4/28/2008

Do we really need a web site dedicated to trashing liberals and Democrats with juvenile name calling and right wing talking points rooted in Longmont politics? Here's the thing, right wing propaganda sites like this serve no purpose but to spread disinformation and the denomization of political opponents instead of offering legitimate debate. Calling fellow residents names like "Dung." Using the word liberal as if it was a perjorative, and to top it off the folks over there can't seem to keep their facts straight in their zeal to belittle those they disagree with politically.

It's a shame. But they have their right to twist reality into whatever pretzel shape they want. I hope people outside of Longmont don't use that as a model for their perceptions of our little city. And I also hope Longmont residents go elsewhere to find out what's really going on. It's also a shame that someone would harbor such misguided animosity towards fellow citizens who might have a different opinion.

The really sad thing is the "owner" of the site is convinced she's right and the ones she mocks are wrong. She'd have to understand what the other sides about before being so dismissive. It seems to be just another blog paranoid about socialism taking over like Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Perhaps that's why she feels the need to pose with a firearm. Who knows, paranoia is a terrible thing so I feel bad for her, and her children.

Go to the Longmont Advocate. At least Chris Rodriguez has an interest in getting the "other" point of view. If you haven't heard, despite our differences public and private, he's asked me to contibute from time to time and I am honored to do so. Hopefully this type of thing will become a trend of inclusion in politics.

So, Richard, I'm just curious - how do you feel about Limbaugh's remarks about 'dreaming about riots'? Does that seem irresponsible to you?

Thank you Bing. The strength of the Nation and the tranquility the City depend upon civility and coming together to support our governments after each election process is ompleted. This article is responsibly reasoned and common sense presentation of your opinion. Mr. Wray’s disappointment that Glen Spagnuolo is not as constructive as he could in publicizing the efforts of DNC to ‘sanitize’ the siutation is commendable. As anyone remembers who was around at the time, the Chicago ’68 Convention added fuel to a deeply divided USA at the time that took a whole generation of time to heal. A strong functioning democratic republic is our best defense against the real enemy, terrorism. Leadership like this coming from the newest generation of future political leaders strengthens the republic and may help collectively to lessen the heat from the DNC National Convention on the Nation.

I'm not sure 'joke' is the right word to describe LR. I don't find visual gun-threats funny, but then again, I'm not an NRA member with a desperate need to overcompensate. I have to say, as much as I admire Glen Spagnuolo, Re-Create 68 *does* set my teeth a bit on edge. Then again, the Denver Police being coy about what they're spending OUR TAX MONEY ON does too... Worst part of the whole mess is the street cops that will get caught squarely in the middle of the whole mess. Can't say I'd want to be in THEIR shoes either. Glen really could be doing something more constructive, like publicizing the efforts of the DNC to 'sanitize' the convention, which is lame. Between him and Rush I'm not sure who will be happier if there ARE riots.

Hehe, I started getting the idea when you wrote your piece a while back and didn't include the "-" between Re and Create. Zappa was the man, or muffin man, if you will.

Yeah, they tote some heavy fire power over there! Literally! And thanks man you did me justice. I have to post the piece on both my blogs. I didn't want to supercede the podcast.

Thanks, Bing! Did I do your editorial justice? I received a good response to your submission. I'll say this about LR, wouldn't want to be on their bad side.
