Blog Entry 176 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

Republican Bob Schaffer is a TRAITOR
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 7/18/2008

Republican Senate Candidate Bob Schaffer has committed an act of treason. By facilitating a business deal our State Department warned was against our national security interests. There is no other word for an American citizen who blatantly puts money before country.

In this age, where Democrats are referred to as traitors because of their speech, their ideas and their criticisms of the current administration, these same people have to call out Bob Schaffer for his actual act, that compromised our national security interests. Will the cowards at KOA pony up? Will the talking heads on FoxNews report on this issue with the same vigor they did when calling a grieving mother and peace activist Cindy Sheehan a traitor? I doubt it.

Wake up people. This blatant hypocrisy most surely cause some who trust these jackals to come to their senses. Where is the outrage? Why the double standard? Media bias? This guy, this slimeball, this greedy punk, went behind our governments back to make a buck knowing full well his deal was hurting our efforts and in turn hurting our troops. This reminds me of George Bush's grandfather who saw no problem with selling steel to the Nazi's before and during World War II.

John Kerry makes a slip of the tongue and is slandered as believing our troops are dumb. Any Democrat suggests we look into war profiteering is accused of being on a witch hunt. But a Republican can profit at the expense of our national security. This is the pinnacle of hypocrisy. Imagine a Democrat doing this. What if Mark Udall did something like this? It would be on the front page of the Rocky Mountain Rag for weeks. It would be talked about by the Klear Channel Kooks like it was the only thing that mattered.

If I am terse and rude it's because I am mad as he!! I'm mad at the double standard. I am mad at the act of treason and the casual way the state Republican Party is willing to over look it. I am mad, frankly, because more people should also be. Anyone want to defend this here, my right leaning friends? Or you just going to rate and run like the cowardly lions Gunny Bob and Mike Rosen who haven't met a liberal they haven't wanted to smear would do?

So I'm not just calling out Schaffer. If you give a rat's behind about who represents us in the Senate, you should be outraged. If you're a Republican you should be demanding he step down and find a new candidate. If you're a conservative you should be calling your favorite talk shows and making sure they out this SOB. It's time to put up or shut up. I'm watching my party, you watch yours and demand better!

One more time in the simplest of terms. When the State department says something shouldn't be done because it is against our National security interests, and someone does it, they have committed treason. This is what happened with Schaffer.

So he was doing a job is an excuse to ignore the State Department's insistence that this job would compromise our security? I'll go slower, he knew he was acting against his country's interests to make a buck then plead ignorance before eventually admitting he knew his country didn't want him to do it. Thanks for definition, so why are you still confused? #2 and #3 apply to Schaffer.

For you Bing: trea·son –noun 1. the offense of acting to overthrow one's government or to harm or kill its sovereign. 2. a violation of allegiance to one's sovereign or to one's state. 3. the betrayal of a trust or confidence; breach of faith; treachery. Uhmmmm... How did Schaffer commit "treason" (your words) again?

I'll go slowly - He was doing his job. Next you'll accuse him of being a Nazi. Please explain how a business deal threatens National Security? I thought Iraq posed no national security threat! ."

No it wasn't a personal attack, it was an observation. Even hard line conservative oi men like T Boon Pickens who funded the swift boaters are claiming that we can't drill our way out of this mess. Leases are available now for oil companies. It's a flat out myth that Democrats are keeping them from drilling or exploring. Any new drilling would take several years to affect the market anyway. This isn't about profit margins for oil companies. This isn't even about supply and demand, this is about the oil companies ability to manipulate markets and our represenatives in DC. As far as Bob goes. When the state department claims a business deal threatens national security, and the deal goes forward regardless, the person who brokered it is committing an act of treason. Claiming he didn't know is not only a lie but completely laughable as an excuse. Face it, Schaffer is a traitor by this administration's own qualifications.

I am "very, very confused." Personal attack there Bing? (You can call me David - Mr. Brown is my dad.) You're counting on the ignorance of the American people and that used to work because we’ve been generally concerned with putting food on the table and a roof over their heads. But the price of gas is cutting into that (with no end in sight) for a lot of us and we're starting to question left wing rhetoric. Tell me, how much of that 9 cents a gallon (on average) should the oil companies give back again?? I’m telling you – you’re going to lose this one. By this time next year Pelosi herself (if she’s still the Speaker) will be give her blessing on drilling in ANWR.

Mr. Brown, your ignorance speaks for itself. No I don't always trust the goverment, apparently you always trust Bob Schaffer however. I'm puzzled at your logic. It seems it's much easier to go after big oil, as I have, when gas is outrageously expensive, they're reaping the greatest profits in the history of profits. Country should come before money, i guess the left simply have higherstandards than the right. Anytime, feel free to email me and I will gladly debate you on the issues. You are very very confused.

Wow!! Schaffer is in trouble for doing his job when he worked for Aspect Energy!! Shame on him! He claims the State Dept. didn't discourage his company and we all know the government is always right. Is this all you guys can come up with?? I find it hilarious you think you can get mileage out of condemning oil when gas is at $4 a gallon and likely to go higher...

Thanks guys. I googled and read up on it a bit. Yeah, I can see why some might be a bit unhappy with Shaffer. He doesn't impress me much with his explanations, nor surprise me much with his actions.

In short Mick, Schaffer facilitated an oil deal with the Kurds in Northern Iraq despite the State Department's insistence it was hurting national security interests.
