Blog Entry 187 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

Speaking of Eisenhower.......
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 8/22/2008

Dwight D. Eisenhower's grand daughter, Susan Eisenhower has had enough. Another Republican disgusted with their party and rallying around Barack Obama.

"I have decided I can no longer be a registered Republican.
For the first time in my life I announced my support for a Democratic candidate for the presidency, in February of this year. This was not an endorsement of the Democratic platform, nor was it a slap in the face to the Republican Party. It was an expression of support specifically for Senator Barack Obama.

I had always intended to go back to party ranks after the election and work with my many dedicated friends and colleagues to help reshape the GOP, especially in the foreign-policy arena. But I now know I will be more effective focusing on our national and international problems than I will be in trying to reinvigorate a political organization that has already consumed nearly all of its moderate "seed corn."

And now, as the party threatens to trivialize what promised to be a serious debate on our future direction, it will alienate many young people who might have come into party ranks.

My decision came at the end of last week when it was demonstrated to the nation that McCain and this Bush White House have learned little in the last five years.

They mishandled what became a crisis in the Caucusus, and this has undermined U.S. national security. At the same time, the McCain camp appears to be comfortable with running an unworthy Karl Rove-style political campaign. Will the McCain operation, and its sponsors, do anything to win?"

BS David. Liberals do not want to control everything through regulation. Liberals believe in liberty for all. The limits to that liberty are when your liberty infringes on another's. It's necessary to pass laws to ensure everybody has the same rights. You never made the case that liberals want to control everything. I'd argue conservatives are trying to legislate their morality on everyone else. Yours is a stereotype and it is inaccurate.

Durbin was trying to fix a problem Republicans had created and compounded by ignoring. Are you serious Murtha was talking bout how our soldiers were being perceived. That's entirely different and sadly it does need to be talked about for their sake. And yes, inferring that Murtha or Durbin were demeaning the soldiers by bringing these unpleasant truths up is despicable! Republicans don't want to hear the cold hard truth so spin it to smear the messenger instead of dealing with the problem.

You know Bing - it used to be that socialism meant that government owned the means of production. It’s different now. Liberals have realized that they don’t need for government to own the means of production as long as they can control our lives through government regulation. This goes back to one of my first assertions since joining this board – the left wants to control everything. I’ve just told you why. So clinically, there is a difference between socialism and liberalism but in practice, the means gets us to the same place. I stand by that today and I don’t regard it as a “stereotype.”

(PART 2) Subjecting the #2 guy in the senate to a little embarrassment is a lot less than when HE did to innocent soldiers just trying to do their job on top of hearing every word from a top US Senator. Sorry I forgot, our "incompetent, murdering soldiers." (Google Jack "We can't win" and "Cold blooded Murderers" Murtha) Now you're going to tell me Murtha was telling the truth about our soldiers being cold blooded murderers and I'm despicable? http://www.newsmax.com/headlines/marines_haditha_murtha/2008/03/30/84210.html ... I'll tell you what Bing, you keep denying, I'll keep proving. Deal? It's OK Bing - I understand you might have a short memory.

(Need 2 parts - Part 1) "Day in and day out?" WHAT?? You mean you listen to Rush and Hannity "day in and day out" and he makes you feel all sad? Bing - I think it might be time to grow up. If you told me that I hate my country because I believe the facts, I'd know that you are full of yourself. It's called self-confidence. It sounds like you might need to grow a set, with all due respect. I don't think you or Durbin hate this country. But this is what you aren't getting. YOU SOUND LIKE YOU DO!! I don't know how to emphasize that enough. Our soldiers over in Iraq don't need to hear themselves being compared to Pol Pot or Hitler. Don't you get it? Durbin doesn't hate America or the soldiers - he was trying to stir the pot to divide us and it backfired. When you involve our soldiers who are just trying to do their job, you invite this kind of thing and I don't blame Rush or Hannity for demogoguing the issue one bit.

Republicans do this all the time, just because you point something out as painful as it might be, doesn't mean it's a joyous occasion for the one delivering the bad news. Now I despise the likes of Limbaugh and the rest of the scum who divide this country by lying about their opponents, but I don't actually believe he hates his country. I'm quite confident the drug addled adulterer hypocrite thinks he's doing good works. But they want people to believe their political opponents HATE this great country. What if I told you everyday that you hate your country because you don't think Bush lied? I could. It's the same rationale. Now imagine that message repeated over and over into the heads of millions who actually believe that their neighbor or the guy at work that are proud Democrats or liberals are soulless America haters who want to take their guns and shove the government down their throats. You've repeated these same stereotypes yourself.

One last thing David and I am not trying to pick on you. When you actually consider that a sitting Senator actually hates our troops you are not being reasonable. That's simply not a logical conclusion. Just like the garbage about Kerry saying our troops were stupid. That's not a reasonable conclusion. Seriously. This is beyond a disagreement of opinion. When one makes this argument that we hate the troops or hate our country they are going beyond all reason. You are no longer discussing differences, you are slandering the character of your opponent. What Dick Durbin said was valid. Our troops were developing a reputation that was not becoming of our military.

Right wing Radio is full of hate. They demonize, not just criticize, not just disagree with political opinion they lie. They blame us for all of America's problems just like the nazis did. Savage, Limbaugh, all of them claim that we hate our country. Think about that David. There is hate all over right wing radio. I don't know how anyone can deny that and I've already given ample examples. Examples you won't find on the handful of liberal shows.

David please. There is ample evidence Bush did indeed lie on a number of occasions, hyping the threat and ignoring harder evidence that refute his claims. It's not a debate worth having, the verdict is in. And if you honestly believe that garbage that everyone believed he had WMD you are naive. There were many critics including the nations of Germany and France and the UN weapons inspectors.

Those of us on the right do too use reason. The proof is that when we do, you guys on the left run away with your tails betweeen your legs because all you have are dopey assertions. "It'll take 10 years..." I can't remember the last thing it took us 10 years... Doesn't matter because unsubstantiated and absurd assertions is the left's version of "reason." BTW Ralph - I found this quote on a ton of left wing blogs and NONE of them put it into context. What was the previous sentence there Ralph?
