Blog Entry 189 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

God's old party.
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 8/31/2008

The Republican Party considers among it's base some of the worst people; the religious right. The charlatans on the tv, the lunatics on the radio. One such lunatic is James Dobson who suggested his followers pray for rain during Barack Obama's historic speech to be done outdoors before 85,000 people. Instead of celebrating a wonderful chapter in our history. Dobson once again allows his vile dark side bubble up instead. This latest plea echoes those of Fallwell, Hagee, and Robertson. Who at one time or another blamed liberals, secularists and homosexuals for acts of terrorism and acts of God. You'd think, if God was down with these pariahs, he'd answer their prayers.

Barack gave an amazing and rousing speech Demcorats and I think other Americans too, have been dying to hear from a Democrat, let alone from the first black candidate for President in a major party. Even Mc Cain took a moment and celebrated the moment between his usual petty and deceptive attacks against him. But the skies did not belch rain and thunder. The sun shone bright that day, the night was clear. By their own twisted and sad logic, God must not be a big fan of Dr. Dobson.

For good reason. He's a bigot. And a rather self righteous one at that. And sadly he influences people that share his bigotry. Using God to discriminate against the gays. Despicable. Preaching division and a mild hate. I say mild only because they don't see how they're speech, their attitudes are hateful. To them, it's in the scripture, it's a personal choice to be gay, it's a sin. That is the definition of a bigot. To cling to a belief despite evidence to the contrary.

Regardless, God seems even wrathful towards the Republican Party. Hurricane Gustav might save the Republicans the embarrassment of having to hold a convention, but clearly it's an act of God at a rather timely moment. So God must be punishing them. If your motivation to be a Republican is because it's God's Party you may want to re-evaluate. It seems quite clear he is not voting Republican this election and it must be for a pretty good reason. After all God just doesn't do stuff for no reason right?

Many of these followers, are in love with Mc Cain's pick for VP, Sarah Palin. A hockey Mom who just loves Jesus so much. So much that as Governor of Alaska she's fought against efforts to stop the hunting of elk and wolf from helicopters for fun! She doesn't want the polar bear protected either. Can someone explain to me why so many Republicans are so dead set against trying to prevent the elimination of a species? I mean come on man, that's just seems mean. I don't think Jesus would think it's cool to shoot at his creatures from helicopters. And Jesus wouldn't dig not helping his polar bears out, much less encouraging encroachment on their habitat. Jesus wouldn't approve of ignoring global warming either I don't think. Especially when the only reason appears to justify this behavior, is that there's a buck to be made.

I don't know about you. But I'm kind of tired of a handful of religious nuts, (not all religious are nuts nor nuts religious) dictating public policy. Especially when they think the end times are coming. I'd rather roll the dice with the thousands of climatologists who agree global warming is real and we aren't helping matters. I'm more interested in diplomacy than wreck-lees use of our military. I don't want my representatives to represent God, because many of them don't have a clue about life on Earth let alone the after life. Maybe God is acting like the Beatles when they told the Maharishi to stop using their names as a marketing tool. I hope Gustav finds a nice patch of sparse uninhabited land to peter out on and I sure hope no one gets hurt or loses everything. As much as I hope the government has it's crap together this time if that doesn't bear out. Dobson can pray for rain all he wants.

I love that Chris never tries to 'sway' anyone. He's so fair. So decent. Golly, I wish I could be like him. (clasps hands under chin, tilts head, smiles wistfully, eyes dreamy).

I have no desire to defend Michael Moore. I simply find your conclusion is more telling about you than he. My point was you so casually judge Moore in such a viscous manner when there are much worse and obvious transgressions against our military. Calling Moore a war profiteer is incredibly ignorant. And frankly smacks more of the ugly American you brought up. You like to crow about your independence but you cast a blind eye to the Republican Party and save all your ire for the left. And often, you don't have your facts right. Just making an observation.

I go by what Moore says and does and draw my own conclusions - you want a picture of the Ugly American, there it is. Disagree? Fine, not trying to sway you, never have. I don't need "qualifications" to state an opinion, especially about a public figure. Would it matter if I condemned contractors? Really? Okay, I condemn thee, whatever. Moore is also a war profiteer, you wont condemn him because you may like his films or agree with his war position (not the dead bodies, I didnt say that about YOU). I didnt say what Dems claim about Gods abortion stance, did I? No. Do you see that difference?

*jumps up and down and shouts with excitement* HI CHRIS! I'm honored you spoke about me (I assume you meant -me- when you said 'Doug...' so I could be mistaken). Bing's right about you, at least in -my- opinion (which as everyone knows is EVIL and HATEFUL and and... POOPY!) :-D

It's amazing you can condemn Michael Moore for words but not military contractors profiting on death. Profiting on the death of our American troops and you waste my time with Michael Moore.

God doesn't like abortions, and you don't hear Democrats claiming he does do you? See the difference?

That is despicable Chris. That you actually believe you know what's in Michael Moore's heart and that you would accuse him of wanting as many dead bodies from Iraq as possible. It's sick and twisted. Amazing you harbor that kind of animosity. Yet you claim ignorance to the ones I actually criticized. So what's make you qualified to throw this garbage about Moore and Fowler at me? If you're ignorant of what I'm talking about don't bother posting your drivel.
