Blog Entry 7 of 36 The Economic Illiterate
I hate politics. I didn't use to but somewhere between now and about 12 years ago politics has become a one-way street. It seems that anyone who is into politics knows only their street and it has become frustrating. I believe I can make the better argument (for the conservative side that is) with just the facts nearly every time. When it comes to mainstream discussion, I don't believe I've met my match. And it has gotten me all the way to nowhere and back again. But the free markets are a different story. It is a subject that one can study forever and never truly be an expert. To some degree we're all economically illiterate, some more than others. I would likely write mostly about the economic peril we face in this country. Of course if I see anything ridiculous posted by some leftie, I may find it difficult not to jump in even though I know it won't have any effect whatsoever.

Sarah Palin for President!
Contributed by: David Brown   on 9/1/2008

I was so ready. I mean, if Senator "Immigration Reform" didn't pick Mitt Romney I was ready to throw a fit from here to Massachusetts. So what does he do? He picks Sarah Palin. Sarah who??

Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. That's who. She's a self-described hockey mom who served in the PTA and helped out with coaching basketball. It was on her old high school basketball team where she earned the nickname, "Barricuda." She was elected for town council and served three terms as mayor from 1996-2002.

She likes to hunt and fish and helps with her husband's commercial fishing operation. She even field dresses her own moose! I can't even get some women to bait their own hook, much less field dress a big game animal. She sounds like my kind of girl. She sounds like one of the guys.

When she found out she was pregnant with a child that would most certainly be born with Down's syndrome, she stopped all subsequent testing and made the decision to have her baby. That makes her more than just "one of the guys." That makes her a role model.

She has stood up to lobbyists and big oil companies. (Apparently that gets traction on both sides of the aisle.) As governor, she enjoys an 80% approval rating in a July 28th polland when oil revenues soared she sent the excess revenues back to Alaskans (Alaskan residents get a check based on oil revenues each year.) She is currently building a natural gas pipeline that will help wean the US toward energy independence. She is an expert on drilling in ANWR and the Alaskan Coastal Plain as well, and can provide leadership that John McCain sorely needs. She said during an interview with Larry Kudlow recently, "It's 'nonsense' that our President had to ask the Saudis to ramp up production when you know that we have the supplies here. Alaskans want it to happen - Congress is holding us back."

She's a proven reformer who hates corruption. She was appointed Ethics Commissioner and Chairman of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission. You see, she was appointed by a corrupt governor of a then-corrupt state Republican Party. When she saw all that was happening, she resigned in public protest over what she saw in her own party. Then in 2006, she challenged Murkowski in the Republican primary and beat him. She then beat former governor Tony Knowles in the general.

Notice the words I used: "she has done...", "she is..." not "she can..." or "she will..." She can actually say she has done it, unlike a certain other senator I know.

If the left wants to play the experience game, I say "bring it on." Her two years of experience as governor easily trumps Obama's four years as senator. As governor you have to make decisions every day on every issue. Senators can pick and choose their issues. In other words, you can't vote "present" as governor.

Look for the far left to begin smearing Palin, her family members and any other person involved in this "awful pick." You see, the reason the left is beside themselves is because they've painted the Republicans as bigots and racists. Republicans have always said they'd be happy to vote for a woman or a black person, as long as it was the right woman, or the right black person. They can't stand it that Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska is the right woman.

A dear friend of mine said of the Clinton-Gore ticket back in 1992, "Too bad it isn't the other way around." If he were alive today I'm sure we could be talking about how this ticket might serve the American people better if it were the other way around.

Mitt who?

Just to counter the hate parade and sexist pigs out there. Speaking of sexism, any idea who's on the TC talking about "Steph"?

I think it's wonderfully sweet and chivalrous of folks to leap to the veep candidate's defense. Even barracudas need love.

Some other source said that at one point the teleprompter was messing up so bad she had to ad lib - and that was when she threw in the line about pitbulls and lipstick. Some reports have her speech more watched than Obamas (even with some stations like BET that didnt show Palins) and now Neilson says McCain beat Obama by 500,000 viewers. I'm a little leery of those reports, but figured anything within 7-8Million of Obamas was a good showing.

She was AWESOME!! I had no idea Chris that there were all these "technical problems." And she came through like a shining star.

Pretty unbelievable performance with her speech, a big stage, millions watching (Hillary's been prepping for 16 years, still shrill, not nearly as polished) - and the teleprompter apparently was screwing up, scrolling ahead (MSNBC said so, must be true) and that Code Pink scum somehow making a scene. Looked like there were other attempted interruptions - desparate acts from losers, why so rattled? And don't even get me started on the out of control rioters on the streets - wonder who they'll vote for?

I thought I read her husband and son were registered Democrat? You calling Dems anti-American? I didn't think so. Sometimes I'm glad not many people probably read these back and forths, because Bing, while we may both want the best for the country through different methods, you echoing these ridiculous and often sexist rants, are pretty foul and doing you or your party any favors. Didn't Obama ask you to back off of her? Can only imagine what's next.
