Blog Entry 191 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

The real deal on Sarah Palin.
Contributed by: Bing Van Gorden   on 9/3/2008

Sarah Palin got herself elected Mayor of a town of 5,000 with a surplus and left it $22 million in the hole. While "reforming" the small town she hired a lobbying firm that got her another $27 million of federal funds with the help of the disgraced and 7 count indicted Senator Ted Stevens. She was for the bridge to nowhere, before she was against it just like her support for Stevens. She was a failure as mayor who came close to being recalled.

Some of her causes include, banning books, abstinence only education and shooting elk and wolves from low flying planes. Her husband is a member of a political party whose main purpose is to secede from the United States. In her less than 2 years as Governor of the least populated state in the union she's abused her power to carry out a personal vendetta. And to top it off her own 17 year old daughter is 5 months pregnant.

If she were a Democrat she would be drummed out of political office and held up as a bad example. But she's a Republican, so she's qualified to be Vice President.

It's amazing to see the compassion for un-wed mothers by Republicans these days. Of course it's only because it's one of their own. Republicans have fought tooth and nail against helping out young women like Palin's daughter. They rarely pass up an opportunity to demonize the hedonistic and immoral Democrats who allegedly encourage this kind of behavior. But when it's one of their own any criticism is off limits. They can call Hillary Clinton a b*tch and laugh to the cameras, but question Sarah Palin and you are sexist.

Beyond the hypocritical double standards of the Republican Party there are more concerns for the person they've chosen to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Palin believes Creationism should be taught in our public schools. She doesn't believe global warming exists. Doesn't believe species like the polar bear are worth protecting. Has admitted to having no idea what a Vice President does and despite her son preparing to ship out soon seems gleefully ignorant of what's going on in Iraq accept that it's a holy war Jesus wants us to win.

If it weren't so serious, it would be amusing to watch the doublespeak from the Republican Party defending their pick for VP. All of the sudden, foreign policy experience is not important. Associations with groups that are blatantly anti-American are fine. Being ignorant of the position your running for is encouraged. Unethical behavior, a requirement. Women running for public office instead of taking care of their family is to be commended. As long as you're a Republican.

For the record, I think it's great that Palin hasn't disowned or hidden her teen daughter's pregnancy. I simply want to point out the blatant hypocrisy from the "family values" crowd who would skewer a Democrat in that position as well as the Republican Party's ignorant faith in abstinence only education coupled with their aversion towards contraception. It would be refreshing to believe that Palin might reconsider her decision to slash funds for teen mothers in her state. But if she is like other social conservatives she is unable to empathize with others who might not be as fortunate as she is.

This decision not only reveals what sad and pathetic individual Sarah Palin is, it also reflects what a poor decision maker John Mc Cain is. Most people see this choice for what it is, a cheap campaign stunt to get the votes of right wing fringe lunatics Mc Cain used to abhor, and to appeal to those disaffected Hillary supporters. All 5 of them, that are really Republicans anyway. What's worse are the poor unsuspecting rank and file Republicans who actually believe their party.

And I think this lady wanted to know if the town librarian would be willing to ban books for whatever reason and had to ask her 3 seperate times and got the same answer everytime. That is scary in my view. It wasn't just inquisitiveness, it was a desire to control the library shelves. The library staff backs up this claim. They felt intimidated by her office.

David, please do some research on her church, it's pentacostal, they believe they can pray the gay out of people, it's a radical church with radical beliefs. Her beliefs compared to any of the others you mentioned is absurd. I did say she was radical for merely being Christian.

And I think this lady wanted to know what the policy was regarding removing books that parents deemed offensive. Of course, parents are ALWAYS rational in their insistence of certain policies, right? I lived in Alaska (when I was in the Air Force) and I can tell you, these people are a different breed. There is no other state like it.

"Radical religious beliefs?" She's a Christian and prays that God watch over us. Wow - really wacky, sort of like JFK, FDR, Teddy and Abe Lincoln who've given similar prayers. Want to see 'em?

Lastly, I know the official word from the Mc Cain camp is she innocently wanted to know how the library handles people who want books to be taken off the shelves. On three seperate occasions. Golly gee whillickers David I don't believe them. Based on her radical religious beliefs and her constant abuse of her office for personal vendetta, I don't buy it. I think she wanted to know if this lady would be a team player and ban books if she wanted them banned.

Yes I read the Snopes article. It debunks a chain email that went around. I do not use this debunked email as proof that she wanted to ban books however. Got it? Does that register with you? Do you comprehend that? If she wanted to ban books it is a safe assumption she will ban books if given the opportunity. FACT: Sarah Palin upon becoming mayor of Wassilla asked the town librarian if she would be willing to ban certain books, the librarian refused, she was fired then re-hired after a public outcry. I have qualifed completely why I come to this conclusion and it is not qualified by this debunked email. Just because you debunk one thing doesn't change the actual facts.

Army and Navy during times of War David. If you take a week and read some history books the idea of a standing military during peace time was out of te question. All this is a huge distraction from my point that the preamble lays out the purpose of promoting the general welfare and other things. That would include the implimentation of social programs.

NOW - I gave you what you wanted. Whether or not you want to argue "until the cows come home" is up to you. How about you give me what I wanted? Article and Section of where it even suggests (you said "demand" but I'll let you slide) that we have to enact social programs. Please?
