If someone would have told me a mere 5 years ago that the Republicans would nominate a woman for Vice-President and the Democrats and their surrogates on the Internet would mount an attack so severe, and proceed to smear her character simply because she is a Republican, there is no way I would have believed it. But here we are. The Republicans have nominated a woman for Vice-President and the far-left hate sites have mounted an attack on her character that never ceases to amaze. The lies are worthy of debunking and while it seems like a long row to hoe, the sooner you start, the sooner you can get to the end of it.
Troopergate:
The charge - Governor Palin abused her authority to have her ex-brother-in-law fired after a bitter divorce from the Governor's sister.
The truth - Mike Wooten, Alaska State Trooper had faced numerous disciplinary actions resulting from drinking in a patrol car, illegally shooting a moose - a crime - and making a death threat against a retired teacher. But the kicker was when he used his state-issued taser on his 10-year old stepson. The retired teacher was Mr. Heath, Gov. Palin's father. One might argue that episode as a domestic "he said-she said" dispute, giving the benefit of the doubt to Mr. Wooten. But anyone who uses a taser on a 10 year old boy with a state-issued weapon is clearly unfit to serve in a law enforcement position. Gov. Palin did the right thing in seeking his dismissal. She would be derelict if she didn't.
Governor Palin is under investigation for impeachment:
The charge: See Troopergate
The truth: See Troopergate. This has no legs. In fact, the investigating committee is going to wrap this up three weeks early.
Governor Palin is Anti-American:
The charge - Governor Palin was a member of the Alaska Independence Party, a political party that advocates seceding from the union.
The truth - The Alaskan Independence Party is hardly the "fringe party" some left-wing hate sites would have you believe and they don't advocate secession. Gov. Palin's husband was a member of the party in the past but
Gov. Palin herself never was. You can read more about the
AIP's stand on the issues here and notice none of the planks in their platform advocate secession. They sound like Libertarians to me.
Mayor Palin left the city of Wasilla bankrupt:
The charge: Mayor Palin pushed for and approved the Wasilla Sports center, leaving the town $20 Million in debt.
The truth: The actual sales cost was $14.7 Million. A food service wing was later added at a cost of $1.2 Million. To pay for the sports complex, the city council proposed
, and voters approved a 0.5% sales tax increase and the entire cost is being paid off early. This charge is ridiculous.
It is tantamount for blaming Wellington Webb for leaving the city of Denver "bankrupt" because of Invesco Field.
Governor Palin slashed funding for unwed teen mothers:
The charge: The Washington Post is charging that Governor Palin reduced funds for Covenant House by 20 percent, cutting funds from $5 Million to 3.9 Million. Covenant House Alaska is a multi-service agency that serves homeless and runaway youth, including teen mothers.
The truth: This is news to Deirdre Cronin, Executive Director of Covenant House. She issued a statement saying the operational budget for Convent House receives no more than 10 to 15 percent of its funds from state grants in any given year and is funded mostly by private donations.
Ms. Cronin says her operating budget was not cut. It is true that the state legislature allocated $5 Million and Gov. Palin reduced that amount to $3.9 Million. However, $3.9 Million is an increase of over 300% from the 2007 allocation of nearly $1.3 Million and $1.2 Million in 2006, which the Washington Post conveniently forgets to mention. Can I get a "liberally biased media?" Can I at least get an "irresponsible reporting?" As of Friday, September 5th, The Washington Post has yet to issue a retraction. They must think increasing the state appropriation by 300%
is a cut.
From the "Nip it in the bud" Department:
"Sarah Palin lied about putting the plane on eBay" should be a forthcoming charge from the left (You know how lefties are fond of their use of the word "lie," no matter how irresponsible they are in its context.)
No she didn't lie. Fulfilling a campaign promise, she really did put the plane on eBay. Unfortunately the only serious bid fell through. The plane was eventually sold to a businessman from Valdez but not through eBay. Look for the left to start squawking, "Palin lied - she didn't sell the plane through eBay!!" How long do you think it will be before that happens?
To be continued... (Unfortunately the left's willingness to make things up is only bounded by their imagination, which seems to know no bounds.)
