Blog Entry 201 of 208 The Subversive Liberal
"If by a "liberal" they mean someone who looks ahead and not behind, someone who welcomes new ideas without rigid reactions, someone who cares about the welfare of the people — their health, their housing, their schools, their jobs, their civil rights and their civil liberties — someone who believes we can break through the stalemate and suspicions that grip us in our policies abroad, if that is what they mean by a "liberal," then I'm proud to say I'm a "liberal." – President John F. Kennedy...................... Some people find me and that sentiment subversive. I'm here to set the record straight and offer the real typical liberal point of view. Some call it subversive, I call it patriotic.

We're just a nation of whiners anyway.

The Republican Party economic mantra is deregulation, privatization, "free" markets, "free" trade, profits are paramount. The idea, money at the top will trickle down and take care of the rest. When the market fails, it's merely "correcting" itself. An odd way to put it when citizens are suffering, it would appear more like the markets were failing us.

The government has an obligation to regulate business for a simple reason. Left on it's own, it booms and busts which isn't good for the country. With callous indifference the Republicans on the Hill want another bail out of Wall St. while adamantly opposing any help for Main St. Faced with an economic crisis of their own doing, they are oblivious to it. They don't know how we got here and they've been driving the bus for some time now. Of course denial is a hard nut to crack. They have proven their theory that government is useless by running it poorly. Now want to prove that deregulation works by using our tax dollars to bail out yet another bank.

There is a notion that the economy has always been this way or that once it was like this, it would be so much better than government meddling. I think it's obvious that this theory is flawed. Consolidating wealth is not helpful to a Democracy. We learned this during the Gilded Age with the robber barons and the Great Depression. You'd think these guys would learn. Hoover said that prosperity is right around the corner, and let people live in tents like refugees. When we approach industry and business with a hands off approach, each and every time it comes back to bite us in the a$$.

Bush acts puzzled that this could happen. Many have seen it coming. We told you so Mr. President. Now he is demanding Congress not attach any help to families and get his plan signed now. The Republican Party is just itching to blame the Democrats for stalling. It's obvious they don't care about the families in the least. It's going to be a hard sell to the American people that they don't matter but billionaire bankers sure do.

Don't give these crooks, and that includes the Treasury Secretary Paulson who is asking for a windfall for his former employers, one dime without oversight and without protections for the tax payers. Don't authorize anything until the 1999 deregulation that Phil "nation of whiners" Graham pushed through Congress is repealed. Nothing to Wall St. until Main St. is taken care of. The Republicans want American citizens to suffer for their failed economic philosophy and they have the audacity to demand quick action.

It's obvious. Reaganomics is dead. It has failed as many of us predicted long ago. The Government isn't there to prop up businesses or give corporations whatever they want. Shareholders DO NOT have more rights than citizens. Corporations DO HAVE a responsibility to act in the best interests of the communities they do business in. Democrats need to reinvigorate their populist roots. Hamilton was wrong, Jefferson was right, democracy is not consistent with business that has no concern for the country but only concern for profit.

You can't escape this man. My party has problems for sure but hey did not create this economic collapse. Wwe were not in charge, we did not offer the kinds of policies your party did. some enabled your party and I have always been critical of them. We created the New Deal your party has done everything to destroy it and each and every time they tae away part of it wee find ourselves in the same spot we were in before the deal was enacted. You can't win this argument, suck it up and accept your party's failings and reject the silly notion that governent always screws things up.

What is It? I can't find a record of anything with that label. I'll gladly look at it but the larger picture is unrefutable, Republicans hate regulations, Democrats understand they are needed. If Dems blocked it there was probably a good reason to do so. I do pay attention to government but amendments to bills can easily slip by. My point is you are holding up one example, which I have yet to be able to verify and that one time is supposed to erase decades of ideology and economic philosophy. If you are trying to imply this one thing would solve the problems the Republican Party and their platform have caused, I ain't buying it brother. For this one instance they were allegedly trying to reign in corporate malfeacanse I can point dozens of times when they encouraged it.

And let the record show that it was you who began the finger pointing. All I did was redirect the blame, rightfully where it should go, not that there isn't enough blame for everyone.

It didn't get done because your guys blocked it, pure and simple. Bing, I thought you were an expert on government. It doesn't take much to stage a filibuster, but I'm sure you knew that since you love blaming the Republicans for blocking things they believe shouldn't get passed. Remember????

His website would be a good start David. If you are not aware of Obama's plan you should get some new news sources. He's been saying it for 4 days. Do you really want to argue who has been for and against regulation? Your going to trot out one example as weak as that? Come on man. You've been working on waht the past 30 years? Destroying the economy. This has little to do with the Kruegers, reeling them in would not have prevented this but regardless your people were in charge the bulk of that time, why didn't it get done.

And McCain didn't create this... Good grief. I told you once he tried to introduce regulation that you should be proud of. I also tried to tell you we've been working on this for 30 years. If "the liberals" "fought for deregulation" then why did they block s.160???????

Where can I get this 4 part outline? I'm interested in what people THINK will "fix" this. Maybe his 4-part plan will "fix" it all right.
