Dooty and Honor
My take on the political scene, spiced with bits of life-as-it-happens. I'll try and separate the fertilizer from the facts, at least as I see it. Coming from the perspective of a not-so-average guy with little or no respect for sacred cows, moose or squirrels. A master debater and wielder of a needle-sharp wit guaranteed to pop the toughest gasbag. Count on seeing people you know and love lampooned and harpooned with impunity and puns galore. No one will be spared, that's a promise. (Note: this blog not recommended for the humor-impaired and you know who you is.)

When I see churches
actively break the law to support the GOP
it makes me a little crazy.
This is how we know that the howling-mad, speaking in tongues whackjobs have realized that they're about to lose an election - all respect for the law goes right out the window.
"Johnson and 32 other pastors across the country set out Sunday to break the rules, hoping to generate a legal battle that will prompt federal courts to throw out a 54-year-old ban on political endorsements by tax-exempt houses of worship. "
Hm. Yet another attack on our country by people who don't support our government. Not satisfied with huge developments masquerading as 'ministries' now they've decided it's time to throw the rulebook out the stained-glass window.
"This time, the church action is concerted. Yet while the ministers say the rules stifle religious expression, their opponents contend that the tax laws are essential to protect the separation of church and state. They say political speech should not be supported by a tax break for the churches or the worshipers who are contributing to a political cause."
I'll bet it's concerted - with the eager and sweaty-handed support of the RNC.
"In an open letter Saturday, a
United Church of Christ
minister, the Rev. Eric Williams, warned that many members of the clergy are "exchanging their historic religious authority for a fleeting promise of political power," to the detriment of their churches."
Once again, the charlatans pretending to be Christ's shepherds have lined up with the shiny-suited punks and thrown morals aside faster than an empty bottle of communion wine at an altar boy party.
"The role of the church -- of congregation, synagogue, temple and mosque -- and of its religious leaders is to stand apart from government, to prophetically speak truth to power," Williams wrote, "and to encourage a national dialogue that transcends the divisiveness of electoral politics and preserves for every citizen our 'first liberty.' "
I guess
gunning down their opponents in church
wasn't quite effective enough, now the profits (sic) of doom have decided they want to take the entire country down with them, Jesus and the IRS be damned.
Get out and vote people, make sure everyone you know and care about votes - keep your eyes open and report anything unusual at the polls. This activity on the part of right-wing churches shows that they've put aside decency and it's going to be dirtier this time around than any election in the past.
I hope someone's keeping track of the churches willfully breaking the law - vengeance is mine sayeth the Lord, but
payback
belongs to the IRS.

The truth is sure setting some GOP folks in the South free - they've felt so free that they kilt a bar(cub) and left it on the grounds of a local university with Obama signs stuck to it. Yee Haw! Them good ole boys sure has a great sense o' humor! (cough)

Amen! :>) Watch the U.S. House. I hear a congressman is planning to introduce a bill to remove the prohibition. I suppose the RR expects either a talking point or a rollover. We shall see. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

The last person I want telling mewho to vote for is someone who believes the earth is 6,000 years old, Creationism is science and hoosexuality is a choice. If churches want to get involved in politics, they'd best prepare for protests outside their doors.

I agree with Dosser. I have never gone to a church that preaches anything but Jesus and politics is taboo as it should be. Politics is one of those topics best discussed over a coffee or beer and religion left to the preachers.

Churches are tax exempt because of separation of church & state. If they want to break the wall down from their side and start playing politics, they're free to do so - and pay their damned taxes like the rest of us.
